SD9 + Apex = Awesome

While it is surely more difficult to accidentally or negligently fire a gun with a 8lb trigger than a 5.5lb trigger, in the real world it's the safety device between ones ears that truly counts. We all have to choose the guns and the options that we feel most comfortable with and fits into our individual level or training and skill. Personally I think the Apex SD9 still has a good pull weight and break for safe defensive use. But I can also see the argument for leaving it stock.

I also agree with this statement, your main safety is your common sense. My finger is never on the trigger unless I plan to squeeze it. My friend has a glock with a 3lb trigger pull and it is light but you also still have control so I guess 5lb wouldn't be so bad.

I had the same line of thinking you do but was glad I did it once the kit was installed. The stock trigger isn't that bad and a heavier trigger isn't a bad thing. But my 8 1/2# pull went down to 5 1/2#, not a hair trigger by any means. Plus there still is a ton of travel. I still feel very confident that the gun won't fire unless I want it to. I'm not trying to convince you to get the kit, but I thought for $20, why not try it? And I'm very happy with the results.

Yeah I was thinking that also. $20 isn't a huge investment for such a simple and effective upgrade, I certainly was considering it I was looking for more posts like this to confirm whether or not it was worth the money. I have been hesitant because there are not many upgrades for this gun yet.

If the Apex SD spring kit was $50 I would still have bought one, at $20 (on sale) I feel like I should send Apex Tactical a thank you card. There was a definite improvement in the weight of the trigger pull and the crispness of the break. It also felt a little smoother with a slightly cleaner reset. Some polishing down the road or lots of range time with smooth it even more.

LOL well all the positive post Ive been reading here and on other sites about apex..... you guys sold me...... I just ordered the kit for $20.

you guys should be salesmen for apex :P

MLK18 has it right, the product speaks for itself. I wouldn't, as most people on this forum, speak so highly of it if it wasn't worth it. Good products don't need slick-talking salesmen. Let us know how you like it.

I certainly will keep you guys posted.I appreciate all the advice !

Just got my Apex spring kit today and finished installing it. It was fairly simple, took me like 30-40 minutes because I was being extra careful not to mess any finishes up or anything. It feels good so far but I gotta go to the range with it to be certain I suppose. But overall i am very happy so far.

Awesome, thanks for the update. I asm betting the your experience at the range will eclipse your already positive experience post-installation. I have already had 2 people I know buy SD9's and Apex kits just from handling and dry firing mine. It would be a real shame if S&W has really discontinued the SD series.

I had to choose between the M&P and SD and I took the SD, simply for price- and I'm a happy camper. May do the Apex thing too, but need someone else to do it for me. No patience, no gunsmith experience...I'd be afraid to shoot a gun I worked on.

Do you take your guns apart to clean them ??? If so then you can handle this mod trust me.... this mod was the most extensive strip down I have ever done on a gun before and I was just fine. watch this video and see how easy it is.. main thing is take your time and make sure everything goes back in right order.

Better than most off the shelf striker fired guns, especially those designed in Austria

have you tried a Steyr they are the other Austrian pistol manufacture and the trigger on them is superb compared to a glock. short and crisp. beats sigma and m&p any day of the week but wouldnt take much.

I agree. The SD9, M&P & Sigma triggers all suck like a Hoover vacuum. In fact they should make a forum for all the people who hate those guns and they should call it the S&W Forum so all the haters know where to go.

Well did not have much success with shooting my reloads with the Apex Spring Kit again. Had five Failure to Fire all with light primer strikes.

Put one of the round thru a Glock an it fired.

Swapped out my sigma slide and the problem went away. The Apex Spring kit is just not reliable enough for me to use in my carry guns.

Will put the original striker back into my pistol and will verify no problem before carrying this pistol again.

mlk18, personally I wanta thank you for your post re: Glock problems. I don't know if anyone else might feel the same way but I'm thankful for hearing about the "perfect pistol" having problems. At several times in my life I have gotten tired of hearing "should have bought a Glock" or "I'd never buy a Ruger-S&W-Taurus-insertothernamehere instead of a Glock."

Thanks. We often times attach too much emotion and/or pride to our guns of choice. The same could be said about me when it comes to S&W. But for some reason it seems that some Glock fans take it to a whole new level and will immediately insult the intelligence of anyone who dares to question the PERFECTION of the Österreichische Wunderpistole! No gun is without it's flaws, production issues or limitations. The sooner we all climb on board to that realization the sooner we can all get back to discussion the guns we like without bashing someone else's gun of choice.

Swapped out my sigma slide and the problem went away.

I'm a little confused here, did you put the Apex kit in a Sigma or an SD? Did you put the Sigma slide on an SD frame?
