I can get a new SD9VE for under $300 with the 2 - 16 round mags. I have held the gun and tried the trigger, it felt good to me. I have read about the upgrades with the trigger and guide rod. Is this a good price just for a range/fun gun? It seems like the grip is just a bit to long for my to cc with it. Personally it seems like anything over a two finger grip below the trigger guard prints easy on me.
Thanks for any input or experiences.

I think under $300.00 would be a good price. I have a sd9ve and it has been very reliable. It's one of my range guns. My EDC is a shield 9mm because it's easier to conceal. Your body type, holster, and how you dress are all factors that determine whether you can conceal a sd9ve. It's a bit too big for me, that's why I carry a shield. Good luck.

It's a great gun. I just had to practice the takedown procedure.

I've been hearing such good stuff about the sd9ve that I've been casually keeping an eye out for a deal on Armslist, but it seems like the word has gotten out, because the used ones are always priced higher than some of the retail prices !

The SD9VE is great value for the money. Under $300 is a good price. The trigger is long and heavy but it can be mastered; and who really wants a light, short trigger in a self-defense pistol?

As for carry -- the SD pistols are relatively thin, which is good, but as you noted, the butt is the problem in many carry positions. You have to decide whether you can live with a large pistol -- the SD is not "large" compared to many others -- based on where you carry, what clothes you wear, where you go, etc. I only carry a larger pistol (SD9VE or Mdl 915) when walking in the woods or wearing a heavy coat; otherwise, I stick with a J frame revolver in pocket carry (in a Nemesis pocket holster).

I have the SD9VE as well and have found it to be reliable and fun to shoot. I would highly recommend changing the guide rod to a SS version. One day I was cleaning the weapon and a very small black piece was in my palm. I have to contribute that to the plastic guide rod. The SS version I have is 17lb version. If you go any higher you chance the slide not coming back far enough to eject and load. I did the trigger enhancement as well with no problems. I chose to find a gunsmith to reduce the hassle of buying the tools and the headaches. A few gunsmiths would not touch the issue but I found a gunsmith that caters to the city police and the SD9VE has the same characteristics of the Glock.

Envious in California

Well, finding one under $400 here would be a miracle (with fees etc mine cost me $469), plus all the limitations (and more coming soon, including ammo), CC impossible to get, then the fees they've added on, along with the micro-stamping requirements that don't exist. Basically we're pretty helpless and have to rely on LE who are never to be found. Obeying the law is our only choice; unfortunately our criminals don't care and if it came to self defense, you get treated like the criminal, guns confiscated, and most likely end up on trial and sued yourself. Heck, we don't even have a gun range to practice within 60 miles now as they're being driven out of towns and replaced with legal drug stores.

Well, at least the climate is nice but it's seriously getting bad out here for the law abiding.

No Academy Sports in CA? Who's your big box Sporting Goods Store? Bet they've got em sub $300, maybe.

Nope - no big boxes here

Sadly not. The big box stores generally only sell long rifles thanks to pressure from the USSR here, and the endless rules our wise leaders have in place. Nevada is the only option but that's been shut down so you have to buy in CA and transfer here, which costs about $125 on top so add that to whatever your best sales price is. AR's are dead here (well you can buy a limited version with a fixed magazine with 10 rounds max and no evil features) and can't ever be sold on after enforced registration as an assault weapon. Any pistol has to have the non-existent micro-stamp technology to make it to the approved list so we're stuck with an ever dwindling list of old stock. Ruger has exactly 1 pistol here, S&W have stated they are pulling out as they can't get approvals (stupid stuff - add a safety feature, even change the color and it's treated as a brand new model and thus must be approved and thus has to have micro-stamping so it can't be done and drops off the list if any manufacturer doesn't want to keep antique production lines rolling). Google CA approved gun laws and list and you'll see. M&P's are already off the list so limited S&W is it.

All this leads to no big box stores selling them, so no deals, plus endless paperwork. Soon we can't even buy ammo without paying for a license and each vendor has to check we have approval. We're not allowed to loan a gun to anyone, nor import more than 50 rounds. Things are truly peachy, unless you're a criminal.

Oh, yeah, it's a pitiful situation and we're easy pickings for criminals, even if we can afford to buy one. I guess all I can do is stock up until my 'safety certification' expires and the ammo rules all kick in. Strictly speaking I even committed a crime carrying my SD9 to my car trunk because the box is cardboard. We brown paper bagged it - yeah, it's that bad.

HelplessinCA, where in Cali do you live ? I got my Sd9ve for $299 in Sacto, although other places sell them between $359-$409. Some counties are better for getting a ccw than others, in my county, (Eldorado) our sheriff is very pro 2A and people are applying for theirs by the droves. Same thing in Sacramento county, even though there are a lot of anti gun liberals down there.
As far as cc'ing the SD, it is tricky with the long grip, but I've learned to switch from the 4 o'clock position to the 2:30-3:00 position with a forward cant. I also conceal my Glock 22 in the same manner.

Around my area, the SD/VE series are on sale from $269-$299 on a regular basis. I was carrying a FS 1911 45acp until I got the SD9VE, then carried it. A good quality, high ride leather pancake with a good quality, thick leather belt is the trick for carrying FS handguns. I don't carry IWB-never have; so quality gear is the only way to go.

I have almost 2,000 rounds through my SD9VE that was purchased over 2 years ago, no issues and all factory stock. The newer SD/VE'S seem to have a better trigger, but mine has smoothed out nicely and will stay as is. I also have the SD40VE, not as many rounds down range, but just as reliable and accurate and issue free.

I bought mine on sale for $289.99 and it has been flawless. Mine is bone stock and the trigger has improved now that I have 800 or so rounds through it. It is so similar to a Glock 19 that it is spooky when you look at them side by side.

Hi. Good deal. I live in the immediate Bay area where pink is our favorite color. Not a chance of any CC and we're the home of stunningly stupid politics and local taxes to fund the stupidity. Hence the miracle of $400 though I could drive 3+ hours roundtrip, twice, to Sacto to find one at your price, but what's 7-8 hours of my life worth with other things to do?

I paid $351 out the door for mine. That included the weapon, tax and FFL paperwork.

I just picked up an SD9ve for $315 out the door last week.
I can't comment on concealability as this will be a nightstand gun. I typically carry either a Glock 26 or a j frame.
I haven't had the SD to the range yet but I suspect it will be reliable based on what others have said. Reliability was really the only "must" for this gun, that and a rail to mount a light on.
Handyhiker, If all you want a range/fun gun, why not just buy an M&P 22? About the same price up front but ammo is A LOT cheaper.

I got mine for $379. This is in Illinois, in Cook county. I should have shopped around I could have done better. But it is a nice gun. I upgraded to the Apex spring kit and it makes a difference firing the gun. Next on the list will be a SS guide rod.I also had Truglo sights installed. For my old eyes it helps.
