I guess I have to ask how many permit holders have been charged with crimes involving firearms? I don't know the answer to that question, but I'll bet it's a very low number.
If you have a problem with this, don't move to Vermont. That will scare the heck out of you. But then again, check out their crime figures, and compare them to D.C., Chicago or New York.

I have had my permit off and on since the early 90s
I had to reapply last year because i let it lapse,
just my thoughts about it being easy.
I do not want to give mine back.
with a permit comes alot of responsabilty, and i'm sure we all know people who do not have that.
thats all i was talking about
 
Here in DE we need to take the NRA pistol class, take another state certified course, show proficiency firing 100 rds,take out an ad in the newspaper with your and address announcing your intention to get a permit, get fingerprinted and get references from 5 citizens that reside in the same county as you. Plus pay more money and wait for the AG to determine whether he feels your reasons are valid and give the OK to issue the permit...our AG is Biden's son.

But at least DE issues them...

I can't say for sure, but that phone call may have been your background check. Does PA use the NICS system? If so that quick call is all it would take. You can run a NICS check off the website or on the phone. Name, place of birth, date of birth, current state of residence, social sec # and you can get a proceed in seconds.

For some reason it takes Ky weeks to issue the permit even though I know for a fact they use NICS. They must have a very slow printing company doing the licenses. lol

There's just no way we can keep the crazys from getting weapons,of all sorts. I hate to sound callous but we as a country accept loss of life all the time as a price for freedom. most of us drive cars realizing there will be many deaths each year from accidents. We fly in airplanes knowing there is a chance they can crash. The same with swimming and drowning deaths. Death just happens unfortunately earlier for some. We all accept the risks because we want the freedom to drive,fly and swim.
I accept that there will always be criminals and just plain demented individuals whom are bent on destruction. I think it would be morally wrong for me to tell someone that in order to do such and such you must jump through these particular hoops. I live in a state that is noted to be quite liberal and I've had to jump through hoops in order to excersise my right to own and use my guns. Yet the crime rate in this state is still quite high.
When you have some low level bureaucrats deciding who is eligible to recieve a permit to carry and who is not it leaves too much descretion, in my opinion, to someone who may or may not know what they are doing. I'm not advocating anarchy just stating that in a truely free society we all accept the price for that freedom with open eyes. Again this is just my opinion.

And does anyone think this conforms to the 2nd amendment??

What if you can't quite make the proficiency course? What if you miss one too many shots? That means you CAN'T protect your loved ones in public?

I'd LIKE to see folks trained and proficient and all that, but I don't want to stop a woman who is being beaten regularly from defending herself and her children because she has to wait four months for paperwork and classes and all that garbage....

The thing about DE is that this is ONLY for a Concealed Carry - to purchase a weapon, you just need to pass NCIS screening.

And here is a little tidbit you might not know, DE (except for the city of Dover and other state park lands) is an Open Carry state - no permit or residency required. But the police don't always know this...which makes for some interesting conversations/confrontations

But it doesn't matter because the 2nd Ammendment only guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. Doesn't guarantee the right to keep a weapon concealed...each state makes the laws that they see fit in things not governed by the constitution...that is why IL is allowed to get away with not issuing CCW

I don't think it should be too easy to get CCW permit, some people should not carry concealed weapons in public. The right to bear arms for personal use does not mean they are carrying them around. Some great people are unable to control themselves at times (we all know at least one), the last thing they need is to immediately have a gun.

In N.C. you must

Must have Certificate from your approved Concealed Handgun Carry Course.

Present your original Certificate to the Sheriff of your county of residence and complete permit application under oath.

Have Valid I.D.

Pay a non-refundable fee of $90.00.

Provide two sets of fingerprints which you can be charged up to $10.00 by the Sheriff.

Provide a release that authorizes and requires disclosure to the Sheriff of any record concerning the mental health or capacity of the applicant.

They run a background check.

By law, the Sheriff has 45 days to approve or deny the permit.

Must renew the permit every 5 years. File for renewal at least 30 days prior to the expiration and submit a renewal fee of $75.00.

I got mine and it was not that hard.

N.C. is open carry but one must be careful not to "go armed to the terror of the public"

in order to carry a gun one must have a gun to carry. the permit or lack thereof neither facilitates nor bars this action in the physical sense. The permit makes it legal and offers a measure of protection in the legal sense only.
the permit should not be harder to get than the gun.

Did it ever occur to ya that some folks have been caring
firearms on their persons ever since firearms have been invented.
Even before it was popular to get a paid permission slip from the state.

CCW Licenses are just a means of addition revenue...Gees.


Lessons Learned,

* Elderly gentleman is stopped by an officer of the law for a traffic violation.

Gentleman has his personal Gov't model pistol on his person.

Officer ask if he had a concealed carry license, gentleman says he does not.
Officers cites violator for failing to signal a lane change and
carrying a concealed weapon without a license.

Judge dismisses traffic charge, orders gentleman to obtain a concealed carry permit.

Moral of this story...State receives more funding from Conceal
Carry Lic. fees that from the fine(s) for carrying concealed without a license.
 
i live in ky active duty military and they still want you to take the classes, which in my area are only offered monday and tuesday night. i could never get the time off work in advance to sign up for the classes and since you have to pre pay for them about a month out i decided to go with a va non resident permit. whole process took less then 6 weeks and proof of military service counted as my firearms class. i dont understand why ky makes the process so difficult. i would have taken the classes and got the ky ccw if they offered them over the weekend but really the fact that i am trusted with fully automatic machine guns and assault rifles should be enough to at least not have to go through the class time. the va non resident was very easy to get and i could see that being abused by some but it took alot of research to find out about it and in reality the criminals arent gonna do that they are just gonna carry whatever gun they could buy on the street or steal
 
Careful, now - the liberals will try to take your "day job" weapons away next. They're going to outlaw war so you won't need them. <G>

I had access to nuclear weapons when I was in, but I've got to get a permission slip to carry a J frame. Go figure.

FWIW, Texas is more appreciative of our military.
