Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

Don't worry, you will grow into it. I went from 145 to 165 in basic.
Understand that. I went from 123 to 165 at Parris Island. On graduation day my Mother put me on every penny scale she saw. Could not believe how much I weighted. When I came home from RVN was 135 and stayed there for two years until I got married. Regular food took me to 145 and stayed there for years.

Had a L/Cpl make coffee once that was like syrup and could not percolate in a 50 cup coffee pot! He had filled the basket inside completely full of coffee out of a 20 pound tin. Once he got the mess cleaned up, he was taught how to make coffee. He make the coffee daily until I rotated home months later. Bet he still remembers the proper way to make coffee.

Long time old friend was PBK Skipper in Vietnam, a chapter about him in the PBR book and several pics of him in" River Patrol Insignia". Sadly he passed two years ago.

Was stationed in Thailand at MCAS Rose Garden. The city closest to us was Udorn. It was about a hour bus ride away. Bangkok was about a ten hour bus ride. I could never figure out what was worth wasting that much "Liberty Time" to get there. Had the same things in Udorn as Bangkok, maybe just not as flashy.

LOL, in AIT at Aberdeen Proving Grounds we had a 40 year old Sp. 4!!!!! in our class. I had made Sp. 4 half way through course and was amazed. To say he had a drinking problem was a joke as you could smell booze on him just about every day. Wife and I had a graduation party and he was already Drunk when he got there and kept drinking bourbon. The 2 Lt.s from Indonesia could out drink anyone. One came in our apartment, sat on the sofa, pulled a pint of scotch out of his jacket, removed the lid and Poured the Whole bottle down his throat.!!!!!!!!

We had a couple of very good WOs in our unit, one young one adopted a " sausage dog" looking mutt named " wrinkles" He was Very low to the ground and his" equipment" got wrinkled every time he walked. LOL If you saw WO Cone come around a corner wrinkles was right behind him and if you saw wrinkles come around a corner WO Cone was right behind him. Other was a much older WO that would retire after this tour and would drive any track or vehicle. We operated our M-88 several times and he always drove. He assigned my best friend and I to inspect several 100 vehicle to determine scrap, give to MARVN or be sent to Okinawa for reissue to other units. Unbeknown to us he put us in for ARCOMs and received mine almost a year later at Bragg. We always let them know everybody appreciated them.
