Shield 40 vs 45acp

Hasn't everyone gotten the news yet? 9mm is superior to all other calibers. And the Glock is the best 9mm launcher there is. The FBI said so. It must be true!

Time to ditch all those out-of-date .45s, .40s, 10mm, .357sigs, etc. Get a nine and you will have the BEST. To carry anything else is for fools who are behind the times. The latest defense gun break through - 9mm - is here. Join the ranks or be considered not-part-of-the-IN-crowd. Trade in all those inferior caliber pistols before they're all worthless!

I've carried lots of models over the years.... 1911 Gov't .45 , Walther .380, S&W J-frame snubby, a classic model 659 , Shield 9mm , etc. My " sporty " types have been everything from various colt and remington single actions and some black powder handguns to Ruger .44 mag Super Blackhawk, Desert Eagle .50 AE mag .... etc ....

The Shield 9mm was just fine, Shield in .45 is mo bedda. The model 659 was great but very heavy. I liked the 1911 fine cuz it was better at the time than an air-weight revolver which was our only other issue choice. I actually would often carry both with the 1911 as primary.

I like the plastic striker pistols for conceal carry these days. They are small and thin and light and inexpensive. The .45 Shield is for sure my favorite for EDC in my current environment.

I have all 3 calibers of Shields. I find them all fairly close in felt recoil. Of course the 9MM is the lightest, but the .40 to me (I'm an instructor, so I practice with a good firm grip) isn't much different than the 9MM. Much better than the G27 I had as my off duty gun in the late 90s. The G27 is now a safe queen. The .45 is close to the .40 IMO, with the .40 just a hair snappier. I've shot multiple shots with each and I don't have a problem with quick follow up shots on any one of them. A friend, recently retired State Trooper carried a Glock .45 GAP, full size and compact. When she shot my .40 Shield she was amazed how manageable the recoil was. She is now shopping for one!

Just completed my old department's retired law enforcement pistol qualification the other day. Qualified with my S&W .40 caliber Shield again, third year now. Prior to retiring I qualified with my GLOCK Model 22 and Model 27.

I guess there are those who don't like the .40 S&W but I do. My Shield .40 doesn't seem to shoot any harder than my Colt Combat Commander in .45 ACP. The Colt was my first CCW weapon, the Shield is my current choice.

.40 for two reasons.

U can have a 9mm barrel for it. And get both in 1 gun.

Plus most grown men can't handle the recoil of the .40. So they get a 9mm. Which means there no use for a .45acp with more recoil.
My wife prefers the 'push' of the .45 over the 'flip' of the 9mm. Her CCW is a Glock 36 or Glock 30s depending on her mood.
But you are correct that the .40 has more felt recoil than the 9mm.
