Someone convince me why I should get a Shield Plus when I already have a 9mm first-gen Shield and a 45ACP shield.

Do you want one? Do you want the extra capacity over your current options enough to pay for a plus, or at least the difference over what you could sell your standard shield for?

If you need convincing on it you probably don't want the gun enough to bother.

I have no want or need for the extra capacity that the +Plus offers
Don't get me wrong they are nice, I handled one at the LGS
Got my Shield 2.0 in the fall of 2019 for $249 & that alone keeps me from wanting the Plus.
Also wondered IF the Original Shields magazines would become extinct so when I saw two for $20ea New I grabbed them up along with a I-Tac OWB Holster for $20 as well.
Would also imagine that a 10/13 round loaded magazine would weigh just a little more, I always use the 7 round flush fit magazine but have the three extra 8 rounders for range use or backups.
The Shield has become my #1 Carry Gun, My Glock & H&Ks + SD9 & EZ stay locked away & are all but useless if you don't have them with you.
Never felt outgunned because of magazine capacity, I carried a 1911 Colt Officers model for 25 years
Get a few different holsters & Carry the Shield 24/7/365

Like two of the guys above, I carried a 1911 for probably 25 of my 36+ years in LE. I carried extra mags and was good to go. I fortunately have several higher capacity choices. I purchased a gen 1 Shield early on when I paid way more than they were going for later on. I then put an Apex duty carry kit in it, a Talon Grip and night sights. I also have 8 mags for it. Some were given to me. I carry the 8 rd mags all the time and feel very adequately armed when I carry it. I would never recover my money if I were to sell it, just to gain a few more rds. My Apex trigger is better than the Plus trigger anyway!!!

I was having the same debate with myself. I've been carrying my Shield 2.0 for some time now and was content with the 7+1 capacity. Since the Plus came out I've contemplated "upgrading". After much consideration I've decided to stay with my 2.0. If I decide to add capacity I'll spend $32.00 for the Magguts spring and follower kit to get 9+1 capacity (10+1 for the eight round mag) instead of the extra $500.00 +/- for the plus model.

If I didn't already have the 2.0 I would buy the Shield Plus without hesitation.

I may eventually get a Shield Plus but I'm not in any big hurry. I currently own three Shield 1.0 versions, two in 9mm and one in .40. I am also looking for a Shield 45. The three that I own have proven to be reliable and if I carry an extra magazine or two I feel covered for most any situation that I am likely to encounter given the places I frequent with me being retired. I also have a full size M&P in .40 if I feel I need something more. If I didn't already own the three Shields that I have then I would probably think differently about getting a Shield Plus.

I have the shield Gen 1 and have carried it along with several other for EDC, but when the plus came out I ordered one and after getting it found that even though the grip was slightly bigger it fits my hand like a glove. And when Magguts comes out with the mag upgrade one mag will equal my shield with two mags. Even though I do have the Hyve extensions on my mags now.

I'm in the same situation. If you want increased capacity for the 9mm, consider the Magguts +2 magazine spring kit. It will give you 9+ 1 or 10 +1 depending on which mag you carry. I use the 7 round mag with the +2 kit and it only adds about 1/8th inch to the overall length. Also has worked flawlessly through probably a thousand rounds or more.

One of the best upgrades I did to my Gen 1 9mm was installing the Talon Grips. Highly recommend. Gen 2 doesn't need them.

why do people stand in line for a day to buy a new phone the day it comes out?
Because they’re brain dead, but want to one up their friends with the newest must have gadget. I never buy a brand new product the day it comes out because it’s not perfected yet. I’m perfectly happy to buy my friend’s one year old I Phone for $200 when he buys the newest model the day it comes out. GARY.

The Shield Plus is a nice pistol, but it's so much better than my 9y/o Gen1 Shield to warrant getting one.

Have carried my Gen 1 Shield 9 for several years. Accurate and reliable. Also have a Shield 40 & 45. I also have the Gen 1 9 Compact (12 round), so if I need more than the Shield offers, I'll grab the 9 Compact. So I see no need for the Shield Plus for me.

My thoughts are this: And flame me if you want. You're in a "worst case scenario" You just shot 7+1 in your Gen 1 Shield in self defense, then you reload with another 7 round mag...Which of course you carry? Guess what? Send the others down range without hits and you're dead... You just spent 14 + rounds at an assailant(s) and the issue is still unresolved? Well... You didn't do your job very well.... Aim small miss small and practice! Rounds down range don't matter.. hits do... And don't tell me about the gang of bikers or the flowing sea of zombies.... lol I'll keep my Shield Gen 1 with an extra mag and feel very comfortable..

My Shield 2.0 is almost 4 years old, has around 4000 rounds through it, and still runs like a top. Never a hiccup of any kind. It's a fine weapon. I've done nothing to it except proper maintenance, replace RSA, and had a gunsmith do a complete clean once (I only do field strip/clean/lube -- no further). I see no reason to change my EDC for 3 more rounds.

Very long answer and I am sorry for it but I have to explain why I have both.

I didn't need another small 9mm when I bought my 1.0 Shield back in December of 2019. With a $50 instant rebate and a $50 mail in rebate I ended up paying $135 dollars after using my Cabela's bucks for my 1.0 and I fell in love with it.
When the Plus came out I thought it was cool but didn't need it because I already have a Sig Sauer P938 that's been in the safe after buying the 1.0 Shield.
I ended up getting a part time job at Cabela's and found out that Taurus had a lifetime warrantee and was told my work would send back a little 380 I had bought from them that never functioned properly . Taurus said they couldn't fix it and sent me G2C as a replacement , well I sure as hell didn't want another pistol I would never carry and my work told me they would give me their cost ( $185) for the Taurus for trade on something that comes in in the future.
That same week a person who had bought a Shield plus online came in to pick up his pistol that was paid for and he just had to run his background check and we gave him 2 Shield plus pistols...because he had bought and paid for 2 Shield plus pistols online. He thought he was getting away with 2 pistols and only paying for 1 and he didn't say anything to Cabelas and he left the store.
Well, a week later he got his credit card bill and realized he was charged for 2 pistols because he had bought 1 on his phone and then didn't think the order went through and then bought 1 on his home computer. He brought one back for a refund and because it left the store it had to be treated as a used gun and because he didn't say anything when Cabelas handed over 2 pistols to him when picking up his order Cabelas bought back one for a great loss of money.
I ended up buying that Shield Plus for $325 and with my $185 credit for the Taurus and my Cabelas points from my credit card I ended up paying $100 dollars for the Shield Plus. So, this is the only reason why I now own a Shield Plus.
I will now tell you the reasons why you might want a Shield Plus. #1 If you have large hands the Plus does have just enough more of a grip it feels much better in my large hand. #2 capacity. #3 My holster and accessories like the TLR Streamlight laser/light fit the Shield Plus and #4 The trigger is better.
