Shield or Shield Plus

I find the plus fits hollow of my palm better than my PC 2.0.
I put my slide and trigger system in the plus and it works great.

I never thought a 1mm change in the roundness of the grip would feel that much better, but it did and feels faster for me to follow up at the range.

This is my opinion only but I’ve asked a few customers how they felt the grip was. Most when comparing it to a 2.0 found it more comfortable. It was more obvious when they could go back and forth between the two firearms.

I currently have a Shield 2.0 Performance Center and love it. My next firearm purchase will be a Shield Plus Performance Center.

Reasons:
- Increased grip thickness
- Increased mag capacity
- Balance the range time wear between them both
- If one goes down and needs work, I'll still have the other one.

With the Shield Plus, I plan to get the slide milled for a Holosun 507K and also attach a Streamlight TLR6.

I'll probably leave my Shield 2.0 the way it is, but add Tritium night sights. My 2.0 already has a Viridian R5 Green Laser which will remain on it. The auto on feature out of the holster with the Viridian laser is extremely advantageous, as long as I don't need a weapon mounted light. Realistically, if I'm drawing the gun, I've already identified the threat, and my eyes will be fixed on the threat. Viridian however needs to get with the program for holster compatibility.

It'll be two different Shields, each set up for a different use profile.

I have had all the Shields since they came out in 2012. Got another gen 1 for the wife when they had the rebates before the M 2.0 came around. I liked the M 2.0 so I got 1 of those in all the variations as well as a Shield 45 PC ( trying to get the 45 4" now ). When I tried the Shield Plus I was not expecting to be impressed but boy was I wrong. I shot it much more accurately, better trigger and like the slightly wider grip. I now have 3 variations of the plus and am hoping for a 45 version. Like others have said you can't have too many.

My thoughts are this: And flame me if you want. You're in a "worst case scenario" You just shot 7+1 in your Gen 1 Shield in self defense, then you reload with another 7 round mag...Which of course you carry? Guess what? Send the others down range without hits and you're dead... You just spent 14 + rounds at an assailant(s) and the issue is still unresolved? Well... You didn't do your job very well.... Aim small miss small and practice! Rounds down range don't matter.. hits do... And don't tell me about the gang of bikers or the flowing sea of zombies.... lol I'll keep my Shield Gen 1 with an extra mag and feel very comfortable..

So much BS..........YOU as a civilian stand better chance of being struck by lightning than get in a prolonged shoot out with bad guys.......Statistically 3 shots settles the average civilian encounter. Don't base your life on tv shows..........They are fiction.

Well, statistically, most civilians will never need a gun at all- so why carry any gun?

Statistically, the boat or ship you are on won't sink, so why have life jackets or lifeboats?...

Each person must decide what level of protection makes them comfortable, just in case they face a situation that falls outside the statistics.

Three reasons I never purchased a Shield (1, 2 or Plus)...

#1: the 3913
#2: the KAHR PM40
#3: the M&P 40c with a 9mm conversion barrel & mags

#1 because I love it, #2 because it is even smaller & #3 because, although a bit bigger, it has even more capacity using full-sized magazines.

Well, and because the Shield Plus doesn't come in 40 S&W...?

Cheers!

P.S. Funny, now that I think of it, basically NONE of the new(?) "micro compact" offerings come in 40 S&W or 45 acp...

Mike...I do believe you missed the point of my post. lol

Waiting on the shield plus prices to drop. I doubt we'll see it priced like back in the old shield 1.0 rebate days when I got mine.

I also have a 3913 and really like it. But I was a dummy and never stocked up on mags back when they were available. In fact, I’m now down to one SW 3913 mag and another SW .40 mag converted to 9 mm that works on my 3913. I don’t have any of the other guns you listed above, so I thought it might be best to invest in a smaller, easily concealable handgun that weighs less than my fullsize 1911, which I also carry.

I eventually decided to get the Shield Plus, and so far I’m glad I did. The trigger is much better than I thought a striker-fired trigger could be. I’ve never shot a regular Shield, so I can’t compare triggers or ergonomics between the two. I’ll say, though, that I like the Shield Plus’s trigger better than my 3913’s trigger. Of course, that’s a subjective and personal claim, and the 3913 has a different DA/SA trigger, so it’s not a fair comparison. But I do manage to shoot the Shield Plus better than my 3913, which surprised me, especially given it’s smaller size and lighter weight.

Anyway, here’s a pic showing a size comparison. Not pictured is the Shield Plus with either it’s 10 round or 13 round mag. I have slightly large hands and can grip the Shield Plus fine with either mag, especially with the pinky extension I added to the 10 round mag. But the 13 round mag feels absolutely great in my hand.

LOL, if the miscreant has survived your 14 rounds downrange, it's most likely a safe bet he'd survive you sending 50 rounds downrange.

I was having the same debate with myself. I've been carrying my Shield 2.0 for some time now and was content with the 7+1 capacity. Since the Plus came out I've contemplated "upgrading". After much consideration I've decided to stay with my 2.0. If I decide to add capacity I'll spend $32.00 for the Magguts spring and follower kit to get 9+1 capacity (10+1 for the eight round mag) instead of the extra $500.00 +/- for the plus model.

If I didn't already have the 2.0 I would buy the Shield Plus without hesitation.

I have reappeared with a confession and to eat my words. I traded my Shield 2.0 in on a Shield plus last week. I had handled the plus in gun shops a half dozen times, liking the fit of the grip. Trying to convince myself that I didn't want it. Bought a Magguts spring kit that did not assemble correctly (probably my fault).

Three things coincided that pushed me over the edge. I made the mistake of stopping into another gunshop. On the shelf was a Shield plus "bug out" kit. Now I not bugging out anywhere so the bag and first aid kit meant nothing to me. But five mags (1X 10 round, 4 X 13 round), night sights, and a more than fair trade offer did it. And it was priced only $20 more than a new 2.0 with two mags sitting beside it. I considered it a no brainer. Oh, and the $50 S&W rebate offer going on.

Hit the range that afternoon, it ran 100% and shot very well. It's now my primary EDC as was my 2.0.

After carrying a pair of J-Frames for years and being a die hard revolver guy, I recently inherited a MP Shield 9. It came with 2 / 8 round mags and 1 / 7. After shooting it I was totally impressed. I shot it better than the J-Frame and the recoil seems less. With 9 rounds in the gun and a back up mag or Two who needs high cap? Besides I still carry a pocket J-Frame and a speed strip.

I just can't sell my M&P Shield 2.0 as it was my late twin brothers pistol + It isn't eating much but I do seem to be carrying my Glock 43X more than the Shield 2.0
I'm glad others have made the switch to the Shield Plus but if I was to look for a more Hi Cap Micro Compact it would be a SIG Sauer P365
I can buy an aftermarket 15rd magazine for my Glock 43X but see no need for the added magazine capacity + I have four factory 10rd ones + also have six M&P Shield magazines = I'm Set!

Still have been wanting the SIG P365 though, BUT WHY?

If I could get even close to what I paid for my 2.0 then I would most definitely buy a Plus. In my area the market for a used 9mm Shield is saturated. Having said that, I am perfectly content to hold onto what I have especially since I just got a Shield 45 for primary EDC :D

I’ve got both.

My 1.0 Shield9 may never leave the safe again.

- The slightly wider grip feels better in my palm.
- Since I rarely carry a spare mag, having 5 more rounds on board is nice.
- And most importantly, the trigger is noticeably better.

For those who have both Shield and Shield Plus, why did you
1. keep both or
2. sell the Shield (1.0 and/or 2.0) or consider sell8ng

With the Plus, we now have 4. 3 1st models, 2 in 9, 1 in 45. I might sell one of the 9s, and I'll probably give the 45 to my son. Shields are good guns, but their a dime a dozen. Resale is low. They all fit the same holster. And spares are good to have. So there will always be at least a pair here until something better comes along..

Just a little over a year ago our home was broken into 3 times in the same week. They didn't get into the safe but did get a few guns I'd left out. The 2nd time I missed them by just a few minutes. And evidence suggests that they were watching me leave, so in very close proximity. Judging from the footprints, there was a minimum of 3 different people in the house. I'm 30 minutes from any kind of police response. Some of the things they took would make you think that they may be back. The police were friendly but pathetic, and noone was caught, nothing was recovered. Going from the standard shield to the Shield plus means I have more firepower in one magazine and one reload than I had before in a loaded gun and 2 reloads. Scoff all you like, I'll take the capacity knowing there are at least 3, definitely armed individuals that have proven they don't mind kicking in my door.

I bought the original Shield 1.0 when they came out. I sold it a year later since I carry my Ruger LC9S and it’s a bit smaller.

Years later, they were almost giving 1.0 Shield’s away when they came out with the 2.0. I bought it just because. I have several other M&P pistols and I like the line.

When the Shield Plus came out I sold my 1.0 to offset the cost. The trigger and the grip texturing are much better.

I just bought a 1.0 yesterday. It is a new, old stock NYPD weapon. Got it for $246 including shipping. For that price, I couldn’t really lose and I like collecting NYPD weapons.

Bottom line, the Plus is certainly an upgrade to the 1.0 and even the 2.0, but it’s not such a leap that it’s a must-have. I never felt outgunned with 7+1.

I shot my Plus last week with my 3953. I’ll always prefer a hammer for carry but I gotta admit I shoot a striker slightly better. A human target wouldn’t be any less dead if I hit him with my 3953 but the groups were tighter with the Plus.

The MagGuts don’t fit because they haven’t released their kit for the Plus yet.

I sold my 1.0 after getting a 4” PC Plus because I really like the Plus trigger, I wanted a compact 4” 9mm, and it just plain works 100% of the time (as did my 1.0). And I had other micro 9s I use when I want a micro 9. My 1.0 had the short barrel.
