Shield Owners - Check Your Mag Releases

Keep it clean as i have mine.

I live in the south and i assure you we live in a high humidity state. No problems here with any of the ones we own. But we do clean ours after each range trip. Which is pretty much a few times a week.

Edmo, I don't think you're being too picky. One poster said that this issue has been mentioned already on this forum before and just that statement alone concerns me. Quick true story: Officer shows up on the range for semi-annual qualifications. Decides to qualify with his Shield 9mm for his off-duty choice carry (departmental policy). Can't get the mag release button to work. It's frozen; rust. It caught him by surprise and he's an avid shooter and gun guy (a lot of cops are not). With a little penetration oil and light tapping it finally gives.

With a lot of gun and non-gun people buying it for conceal carry to me it's becoming an issue. This incident on the range has made me re-consider it for off-duty carry and yes I do have one and I really like it except for this. Like I said early none of my other guns have ever had this kind of problem and I carry all the time in all kinds of weather and conditions using IWB holsters; i.e. Glock 23, Colt New Agent and my old trusty S&W 3913.

frozen eh..... guess he needs to try using it or cleaning it a little more often than never....

Like said, the Shield manual shows field stripping only.

Is the release button itself rusting, or is it within the grip?
I'm just thinking if it's the button itself, which is removable, S&W could hopefully come up with a fix/replacement part, that can simply be dropped in.

Meh, you paid more than you should have. :p
$335 for any prior military... ;)

Carry on!

.

I tried to get the MIL discount, but S&W didn't offer it for the Shield when I bought mine. The best I could do was pay no tax since I bought it at a BX.
