Shoot, Don't shoot

I'm in turmoil. I have several LIKE NEW 3rd Gen Smith's that I've acquired in the past year or so and have yet to shoot or carry just because they look too nice. I have a virtually new 5906, CS9, and now a Shorty 40.

I didn't buy the guns to be safe-queens, but none of them even have any burnt powder or signs of having ever been shot. I will shoot the Shorty 40, but the others are just sooo clean and unscuffed.

I'm leaning towards SHOOT just because I will always be wondering. Guess I answered my own question.

What would you do?

Sounds to me like a good reason to buy another one of each model. You can keep the nearly new ones staying in just that condition, and you can shoot, carry, and enjoy as they were intended the others.
 
Wish i could afford to buy two of each. I just dont see that happening. I plan on carrying the CS9, so i dont have much choice. Ive GOT to put a couple hundred rounds downrange just to feel comfortable carrying it. I may keep the 5906 MINT though. Ive carried and shot that same gun for YEARS.

I can see where this might be causing you a lot of turmoil and pain.

This could really become a serious problem, but don't worry - I'm here to help you out. I'll buy the CS9 and Shorty 40 from you so you won't have to deal with this dilemma.

They will keep my minty 5906 very good company, and I'll only shoot them (occasionally) :D
 
I should have added that I sold a 5906 several years back and really regretted it. I recently bought another 5906 on GunBroker LNIB (totally mint) and now have refreshed my love for the 3rd generation S&W's - which led me to join this forum!

I'm looking hard for a 3913, 6906, or 4013. Plus maybe a CS9, CS40 or Shorty40. For now I'm biding my time and looking for any of the above ones that are LNIB or NIB and not ridiculously priced.

As one of the above posters noted - shoot them, clean them (well), repeat! Then give them to your kids one day. Or sell them to me now.....
 
If your objective is to make money like in the stock market, grease them up real well, then put them in a safe deposit box. Of course, you need to understand that you may lose money in the long run because some stocks will do better than others. So, hire and pay a financial advisor.

If you bought the guns for a hobby, shoot them and let your heirs take the hit.

I don't buy guns to save money and I don't believe in being frugal so my kids can be rich.

Last year I came across a non-fired reg. magnum and since then I have shot the **** out of it! Am I having fun yet? You bet.
 
You could try and locate a couple of "scuffed" ones like those you have but that wouldn't be any fun! Not like taking a new pistol out if it's box, loading it and shooting it! Shoot those Smiths that's what they were built for. Dale

I bought my 6906 from Cole Distributers. They had a LOT of good condition 6906's from 80-95%. I wasnt going to baby that one. I wanted one already "previously carried" so i wouldnt cry if i dinged it.

are these the same Cole's Distributers located in KY? I looked them up on the web and it appears to be. They don't show any pistols in their inventory- I'll try to look them up on GB, Guns America and Auction Arms.

Did you get the 6906 through the mail from them or are you in KY and picked it up in person? I'm in the Cleveland, OH area.

I have an opportunity to buy a 6906 or 3913 here locally that look pretty clean, or a CS9 on line. I may start another thread but am trying to figure out which gun would be best for CCW?

(also am open to any of the .40 cousins of the above -4013, or CS40 or a Shorty)

I've held the 3913 and 6906 and like them both, but haven't tried to carry either one. Of course the 3913 is lighter. I've never held or shot a Chief's Special.

I just took the class with my son a month ago and am applying this week. My other pistols, including a 5906 (favorite), are all full size guns - and I need a smaller/lighter one for CCW. I definitely want to stay with a 3rd gen. S&W all metal gun- no M&P's, LC9's, etc., are being considered.

Any strong opinions on here about one of these three listed above over the other 2?

I'd be happy with any of the 3, and of course would like to someday have one of each, but right now need a new O/U shotgun with spring clays/skeet opening up, and have tuition payments for our son due, so I need to narrow down the carry gun choice to just one of the above.
 
I purchased an ANIB 5906 during the pre-holiday trade-in season for a very nice price. Could've put it away and kept it as a safe queen. Instead I cleaned & lubed it, bought 4 15-17 round magazines to replace the Clinton era 10 rounders it came with and proceeded to put nearly 250 rounds though it on its first range outing:D

Great pistol. Not a single malfunction of any kind. Shoot yours and you will feel less stressed, have a big smile on your face and still have a valuable, quality all metal pistol to enjoy over and over.

Ben, you are joking right? That's like getting married to the prettiest girl in town and then taking her home and not making love to her because she will get dirty. Come on, rub up that CS9, shoot that thing fast and accurate, you'll still love her in the morning when you scrub her up. :)
 
Took care of that last Saturday. I shot the shorty and the cs9. Im really impressed by the cs9. Bought a Gould & Goodrich small of back holster that SHOULD accomdate all my 3rd Gen. Saving the 5906.
