Do it mythbuster style and get some bullet proof glass and a long string... cause you know... you have that stuff lying around :P
 
That portion of the slide is under very little stress id either get it welded or just break the piece off. I have had at least two slides welded and all is well personally id just finish breaking the piece off so it doesnt get caught on rear rail and keep on shooting. Screw buying a new slide the gun is so cheap either dont bother or get a brand new gun.
 
So... Ya gonna transfer the sights to the new slide yerself ????
 
I am no expert but it doesn;t seem like that would hurt anything when firing- just maybe one round at a time, the back end of the slide may break apart on recoil...? Maybe?

That is exactly what I was thinking...shrapnel!!
 
Hmmm, how about removing the cracked section and reshaping it on both sides equally with a dremel (after all you already used a hammer). Cosmetics will suck. Buying a new slide is the best idea.
