Shoot The Dog?

We don't have wandering dogs in the Northwoods of Wisconsin...too many aggressive wolf packs looking for dinner.

Regarding 4-legged critters with bad intentions coming on private property it's 5 words...

"10 gauge from 30 feet"

In an earlier post I described how docile our Greyhound, Millie is. When we camp and around the neighborhood she has had dozens of critters from deer, turkeys, rabbits, birds etc., right in her face and she never even barked. Her ears would perk up but she never, ever made an aggressive move towards anything or anyone. Last night on her evening walk a rabbit (the proverbial "dumb bunny"), ran out in front of her and she struck like a cobra. She almost yanked my brides arm just out of the socket going to the end of her 6 foot leash and nailed the bunny of the back of the neck. A couple of violent shakes and the rabbit was headed to bunny heaven. First time in 18 months we have seen the slightest sign of aggression. Like I said before, you just never know when a a dog, any dog, will get aggressive. We are considering changing her nickname from "Princess Poops a lot" to "The Bunny Butcher". (o;

Exactly. Some folks just don't understand this. Having been through this several times with dogs and their owners, I call baloney to anyone who says it's the owners fault. Yes, most of the time it is the owners fault. But not always.

I have experienced first hand when a supposed "good" dog went bad for no apparent reason.

Humans are supposedly more intelligent than dogs but even we humans can have a bad day. So why not a dog?

Heck, my snakes have bad days and are sometimes for no apparent reason cranky. :confused: Someone posted that there are no bad dogs, but that they get raised that way. My hunch is that, just like people, there is the occasional dog that is born no good.

FYI - we often get into "should I or should I not" situations. Recently here in the Oregon - had a fella with a CCW, armed, arrive at a local store just as the robbers were fleeing. He drew and fired at the departing car. When asked by the investigating officer -"Did you feel in danger" he answered "no". Explained he was trying to "shoot the tires out". He was arrested; gun and CCW permit confiscated. Don't know the final resolution yet. Not good I fear.
