Good for you, Strato! I can understand if you were friends for a long time before, and still remain so, that you would want to help her learn how to shoot and provide for her own protection. And you've helped bring a new shooter into the fold!
I think many men find it difficult to have women as friends that they can get along with. The marriage thing didn't work out because of a serious breach of trust in what it meant. There is no reason to look back on that. Your position is completely understandable. But it's too bad more folks don't get to be good friends before they decide to get married. It might work out better that way. Besides, you'll get serious props from other potential prospects, maybe even some leads from her or her friends, when they find out you don't harbor a lot of bitterness.
