Should I buy this M57?

Here is something we should all understand. People buy Smiths for all sorts of reasons. Some use them as a tool for hunting, some for fun at the range or fun with bowling pins or half full 5 gallon propane tanks. Some collect for investment, or just to own as a fine piece of art of sorts. Value? Whatever you are willing to pay to have what you want. Just enjoy, your gun purchase is for you alone.

Welcome to the 57 club!

That gun is HOT HOT HOT!!!

Good decision on your part there Spider! I have two four inchers, and I really prefer shooting full house .41 rounds to full house .44. I think you're gonna really like it!

Yes We Are Enablers I'm picking up a Mod 57 no dash 4in tomorrow off a long time friend He bought it new and never fired it Sat in his safe all these years Aren't you all jealous LOL Try the 175gr Winchester in it if you can find a box Flat shooting and a recoil of a 38 spl at magnum speeds [1450 plus fps if I remember correctly ] You are so going to fall in love as the 41 will do everything the 44 will do It will completely penetrate a deer from left to right and I shot a deer going away and recovered the bullet in the neck [210gr factory load] biggest problem is going to find bullets for reloading in various weights Best

Nice gun SandSpider, congrats.

3-4 years ago I bought a absolutely NIB 4 inch 57, blue box, presentation box, unopened tools , papers and even the brown shipping box, total package, yada yada. Factory fired only, to this day.
I have other 41's to shoot.

I "overpaid" at the time, $695 shipped. Probably worth 2x that right now.

Btw, I bought it from Cherrys Fine Guns, the same guys who have that boatload of Colts referenced in another thread. They're pricey, but they have the goods, and are a pleasure to deal with.

You would be spot on.

There is one, a 4", in my dealers case right now, in what I believe to be unfired condition, with blue box, and although I didn't ask I'm willing to bet all the papers and gizmo's. There isn't even a turn line that I could see.

Tagged at $1399.00, IIRC. Out of my price range anyway, so I didn't waste their time. :)

The .41 magnum is a great cartridge

I have liked the cartridge and the guns chambered for it since I was old enough to buy ammo. The one Marlin carbine I was fortunate to own got sold to a neighbor for his petite outdoorsy daughter.

I always thought a rifle/carbine like the old Remington 25 pump would of been popular in .41 and .44 magnum, though the similar Timberwolf carbine had limited success.

This S&W 57 is the first .41 magnum I bought.

This S&W 57 is my second .41 magnum.

Number five, another S&W 57 that needed to be refinished to make me happy, so I sold it.

Thirty something years ago I also owned a couple of Ruger Blachhawks. SA guns just never appealed to me. I traded one for a I-J carbine and the other for a Interarms Silvercup 1911, both are long gone.

Congratulations on a great purchase, and my apologies for misrepresenting your screen name in the past. That gun and package looks very, very nice.

SandSpider

Congratulations, welcome to the .41 Club.
That's a beautiful gun, box, & tools.
The .41 is a great cartridge & I think you will enjoy it.

I'm sure we all would like a range report when you get it to the range.
