Should I get a M14?

I can shoot my M14/K38 better then any other .38 spl revolver I have for target shooting.
When I shot NRA Bullseye, it was .22, center fire & .45.
All shot the .38 spl for center fire, mine was a M19 6", wish I had the M14 I have now, would have made Master instead of Expert.

TH, TT.

I don't own a M14 either as I was never too fond of 6" barrels (although I do own 6 or 7 of them). I have a M15, and a Combat Masterpiece as well (pre #'s) which are about the same as the M14 but just have a shorter tube. If you do like the 6" barrel, than the M14 is a fine old Smith and friends that have them love 'em! At one time it was the coveted Target Revolver of its day.

You should know better than to ask us a question like that. Of course you should buy a Model 14!

I had a -2 back in the mid-70's, was a great and accurate firearm. I had a modified target grip on it that was sweet to hold.

I used it for varmint hunting on the deserts and in the hills of Utah. Shooting rodents at 50+ yards is a great activity for developing stance and trigger control.

I even carried it on duty for a short while in a swivel holster (no snickering in the back row please, it did not drag on the ground).

One of the hazards of buying a Model 14 is that you soon will find the intense desire to have a Model 17 in .22 LR.

Top Model 17 bottom Model 14.

They are the same size, weight, and configuration.

OK, my options are a M14-2 with the box and Magnas and a REALLY WIDE trigger or a M14-3 with Target grips and no box. The -2 is in better shape with less wear and they are both $599.00. I think I know which one the crowd will go with. So will I. Hope it is still there on Friday.

I read the heading and I too thought,

I do have a M14-4 and am anxious to start loading for it to see just how accurate it is (in spite of my old eyes).

I well remember first class boatswains mate Hickey yelling at us and have the whole bunch of us stand there with our 1903A3's holding them straight out in front of us. Frank

Model 14s? Like them? Well . . .
Here are a few of those that live in my gun closet! I can't imagine life without some of these wonderful revolvers!

And just for good measure, here is one that is too early to have a model number:

Yep. They are nice guns to own and to shoot!

I just competed in Sheriff's Aero Squadron fly in bullseye competition. (Two handed hold allowed) with a 14-3, bone stock. Got some ribbing 'bout being old school....... tied for first. And I am not the best shot in the world. But that 14 with Winchester yellow box mid range wadcutters (5.00 was the last tag on the box) gave me an edge. Didn't really seem fair.

OK the 14-2 is on layaway for me. I am not kidding when I say that there were at least 4-5 14's at my local shop when I posted this thread and when I went to pick one out there were only two left. Somebody is reading my mail..... or at least my posts. :0) All good. I will bring this one home in the next 30 days or so. Will post pictures when I get her home.

Well, how large can your city be with how many gun shops holding S&W Model 14s? Remove your town and make it tough on 'em. Most of the time when you walk away from one it is gone when you go back nowadays.

Glad you got back in time to get the good one.

You and your grandkids will be able to enjoy that one.
