SIG P320 Discharges?

Why didn’t the ARMY pick up these issues at initial testing. They were so anti Beretta they barred them from competition. They needed guns with different chassis so the DEI and unfit
Recruits could get their little hands around grip.
320 not a great design with high heavy slide causing barrel slip when firing. Worst than 1911.
The army’s has a safety we use them day in day out and not in ideal conditions. The safety is another reason they didn’t go with Glock. I have had 0 issues either my M17 and absolutely love it. Now the M18 is not as good. The smaller barrel with the wider grip(if you need the large grip) sets the gun off balance.

The various problems with the P320 have been known since 2017. A couple of people I know and respect on LF first raised some of the issues back then. Sig's attitude is poor, at best. Man years ago, I ordered a 239 with certain features and it was so (messed) up that the dealer rejected it on receipt. That's a clue. I have another now and it seems fine.

I am not an engineer by a long shot, but my suspicion is that there is some kind of tolerance stacking within a poor design. Guns are a serious use issue and tolerating even a small number of hard/impossible to explain problems in a serious use firearm is simply not acceptable. There has been an on-going discussion among WA LE legal advisors about this, and frankly, what I saw was a collection of ignorant (the road to command rarely passes through the range or mat room) and butt hurt Chiefs who did not like being told they were Adam Frank Union in their choices. I am pretty sure that there ways to make Sig pay for replacements, along with other companies willing to step in at much reduced cost. I am in the process of retiring, so the legal issues are no longer mine,, but there is no way in hell I would ratify the use of that platform.

Interestingly, it is my understanding that the 365 does not reflect these issues. No idea why - remember I said I am not an engineer. FWIW, I have heard from other hard use folks that the Army lowered their testing standards to get the Sig instead of relying on the FBI's relatively stringent testing that resulted in buying the Gen 5 Glock. According to friends with military experience, the training and use of handguns outside of SOCOM and a few other places is borderline clown shoes. Handguns are relatively unimportant in military use, and as Lt. Col. Bolgiano said in a video I can no longer find, the only place that is institutionally more afraid of firearms than the military is Disney.

If I were staring to get into handguns today, I would likely go with the M&Ps. I am too heavily into Glocks to change now.
The only problem with your post is that you don't know if the suspicious weapons had been tampered with. I have not been following the story closely, but with of hundreds of thousands of gun in circulation, there have been a hanful of documented cases of the guns firing uncommanded.

I am no apologists for Sig, and if they had to replace all of the 320s, it would probably be the end of the company, so they have a strong incentive to cover up a real defect, or even to admit that there is a problem. (and settling court cases is not an admission of guilt, but the path of least resistance) The flip side of that is if someone has a neglent discharge, it is in their interest to blame it on a faulty gun.

We know how an issue like this can grow legs of its on on the world wide web, but until someone can reproduce the factory original pieces firing without a trigger pull, I am keeping an open mind. Has that been done?

ICE just canned the use of the P320 and are going with G19.
Some training companies have banned them and Sig Brand partners are dropping them.
AmmoHouse, yes Sir, just saw the letter. I have personally seen two 320s that show signs of battering on the striker safety plunger shoulders, where the striker has made contact during normal firing. The plunger is there to stop the striker if the sear engagement fails for any reason and I have questions that this will always happen as designed. I think R. Cohen is responsible for the mishandling of the issue and failing to fix the pistol. To me, it appears there may be multiple issues with the suspect pistols probably caused by tolerance stack-ups. With what I know I wouldn't testify in court but I'm sure there are plenty of folks that will.

Do you honestly think proper testing was done to vet the gun? From all appearances the choice was made before the trials. A common thing seen in banana republics like the US government with corruption galore. The only question I have is, who got the bribes?
Military acquisitions (andi many other items- F-22, ACUs anyone) have been fraught with corruption going back to the Continental Congress.

Guess you never had to work on them, a real POS. I will never forget the video we were shown at APG when we were “ introduced” the the goats. Showed a Sgt climbing in starting it up and driving down the boat ramp to show the “ amphibian abilities”. After a few seconds you could see him trying to get out of the cab as it was sinking. Seems they forgot to put the plugs in the cab LOL
Oh, BTW they never made it in Vietnam….

No gun goes off by itself, just stupid and remedial people find these guns unsafe. You gonna trust the FBI? This horse has been beat to death so many times. Time to find another subject matter. Haters gonna hate.
Yes, I trust the FBI. I trust them with my life some days.

As for the SIG P320, worth reading this lawsuit summary, where the guy bled out trying to apply a tourniquet.

I was thinking of the "Mule", not the Gamma Goat. My mistake! I think our National Guard had them.

Mules are great and are collectors vehicle now going for around $10K! Goats are not desirable for MVPA ( Military Vehicle Preservation Association) members.

I just got a complete copy of the FBI investigation of the "Uncommanded Discharge" that occurred with the Michigan State police 320. There is a lot of telling info there. None of it very good for Sig.
