Sigma fell apart in my hands! Piece of crap!

Seems to me that Swabby summed up the whole argument right there!

Swabby said what I feel ! I have a SW40VE and it performs great esp for the price. It fits my hand just right and has fed any ammo I've loaded it with so far.It is my SD pistol but I have others also from various brands. I judge a pistol by it's performance in my hands not just what I hear. If I found a great deal on a Glock when I was in the market for another pistol I might buy 1. I don't buy to impress I buy to shoot !

I'm not trying to bash anybody but the new sigma 40ve that I bought last weekend broke after 14 rounds were fired. I put it on UPS to go back to S&W this morning. I hope that this is a very unusual thing to happen. I like the way the gun fits, weight etc. I've owned quite a few firearms and this was a first for me.

P.S. Somebody on another thread said it was my fault for not field stripping the weapon before shooting. Well, that ignorant SOB doesn't know that I was a passenger for 2 hours after buying the sigma. During that time I went completely through the manual and fileds tripped the weapon till I could do it with my eyes closed!

I own a first generation 9mm. I inherited it when a friend passed away about a year and half ago. It was his duty weapon. I have about 400 rounds through it. My late friend put somewhere in the nieghborhood of 10,000 rounds through it. He sent it back to S&W once for a broken trigger return spring. Never had any other issues

Did you clean it thoroughly while you had it field stripped, or did you just take it apart and put it back together multiple times?

The funny thing about all the Sigma/Smith and Wesson bashing is that I always offer to buy the "hunk of junk' from them.

They always decline. I wonder why that is?

Well I've been a Glock fan for 15 years now. It's also my issued weapon at work.
But at $316.00 for a SW40GVE from budsgunshop.com I decided to take a chance. Hopefully it wont take to long to get here.

Whatever he meant or wherever he was talking about, his attitude sucks and I for one don't mind telling him so!

True. But your whole "son don't shine" post was not exactly gracious either.

I bought my first Glock, a 17 in 1987. I still have that gun, having carried it as a Border Patrol Agent when the patrol still allowed personally owned handguns. It was always reliable and held up to a lot of abuse. Its been packed full of dust, banged against rocks, and dunked in the Pacific Ocean once or twice. Its had a lot of rounds thru it and probably half were +P+. Even with a lot of rounds thru it, it was the gun I still chose to fire for record when I was selected to attend an FBI firearms instructor school. I currently own five Glocks in 9mm, 40, and 45.

I saw my first Sigma when they were first introduced in 9mm and recall that I noted the similarity between them and Glocks. Later I heard that Glock had sued S&W for infringements, but I never heard what the official outcome was for that. My personal experience with the Sigma is limited to a few rounds here and there. About the time that the Sigma was acquiring a bad reputation, S&W's ownership at the time was getting in bed with the Clinton regime, which didn't go over very well with honest American gun owners.

A police department in my area, like many, were die-hard S&W throughout the transition to semi autos. They authorized a 3rd generation pistol for years with good results until S&W discontinued that model. Then they switched to Sigmas in 40. The Sigma experience was apparently not what they expected and they switched to Glock. I still encounter their officers who are grandfathered to carry the Sigmas. Some carry guns that work. I've also seen some officers carrying Sigmas that needed some attention from an armorer, to say the least.

On the range, I am very surprised to see a Glock fail to function reliably. Still, they are mechanical devices and like any mechanical device, they can fail. I've also seen Sigs fail to function reliably when springs and other parts start to wear out or break. A Glock is down-right simple to fix in comparison with other pistols.

I recently purchased and M&P 45 and am thusfar very impressed. In my opinion, it is a better gun than the Sigma, and has some features I like over a Glock. The M&P will rightly give Glock some worthy competetion. I grew up on S&W revolvers and glad to see Smith producing a semi auto that is rock-solid quality and American made.

It just seem like the trendy thing to do "bash the gun that cost less than mine".
I start my gun collection from the bottom of food chain, my first pistol was a Hi Point C9. You will not believe the bash I got when I told my gun friends. But I did do my research before I spend my hard earn money. And you know what, I did not regret a bit buying that C9, for the price, I got a decent reliable handgun that shoot decent group. I eventually leave everything it could teach me about it and move up to a Glock. But the bash continue, for it's not a HK, it's not a Sig...etc. Well, now I do own Sig 226, HK USPf, guess what? I'm still getting bash for not owning 1911. I figure even if I start with 1911 collection it will never end, there will always be the more expensive more customized gun out there.

BTW, I might get a sigma soon, someone at my local range is selling his sigma 40ve for $250. Not a bad price in my neck of woods.

Did I tell you guys that I actually like that Lorcin .25 that I have? The shine grows on me.

Anyway, Sigmas... I have a Sigma. A 40VE. I traded it away, and ended up with it back. It lives in the closet. I also have Glocks and had an FNP and a H&K USP. There is a definite pecking order even in terms of the polymer guns. The Sigma is noticeably rougher in some respects than other guns that do in fact cost more.

That doesn't make it a POS, but it is what it is, an entry level "Value" gun. It works, at least in current incarnations. The early guns gave problems to many purchasers. Some have opined that the frame will eventually crack on all non railed versions. That I don't know. I do know that many departments that purchased the early Sigmas had numerous problems. It was a minor scandal that the County ended up with them where I used to live owing to the problems.

Is it just me or is there a great deal of irony in the fact that many will bash the Sigma and think that a Glock is the ultimate, and yet it was Glock that sued S&W because it was a near clone of a Glock. Too close for comfort..if I recall aren't some of the parts interchangeable? Could be wrong on that....just thinking out loud here..

yeah, S&W stole the basic design from Glock with the Sigma. Nobody seems clear on the nature of the lawsuit, but that might explain why the F-series Sigma had such a superior trigger/striker when compared to after model Sigmas. I can't believe Kel-Tec hasn't sued Ruger for an out and out patent infringement of the LCP. But, then again, everybody robbed Browning's designs.

I just got my gun back from s&w. The back end where the slide meets the back of the base of the gun doesn't look right. There are gaps btwen the pieces that looks like it is missing something. Can somebody post a pic of the gun looking from the rear towards the front?

This thread is as big a waste of time as the threads you complaing about.
