I have a mp compact with the ambi thumb saftey. I just ordered a MP Pro Series 5" ( not the core or ported). The pro series doesn't come with a thumb safety and I really want one on it. Does anyone have any clue on how I could add one to it? I've emailed s&w and they will not give me any help.

I have thought about buying a MP 4.25" with the thumb saftey and takin the slide from the mp 5" and putting it on the frame with the ambi thumb saftey. Think this would work? I'm just guessing they have the same specs but if any of you have done this before any input would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jordan

Yes that would work, all the FS pistols interchange uppers and lowers.

You may be able to add the thumb safety to you gun with just a couple of parts. Look at your frame and see if there are 1/4 inch square plugs where the safety would stick out of the frame. They would be on both sides. If you do (and I am almost positive all do now) then you need 2 parts available from speed shooters specialities. One is the safety and the other is something like a plunger assembly (I don't recall exactly). There are videos on how to install them out there. If you need more info, let me know.

I think he also needs a particular sear block. From what I've seen it appears Smith "mixes" various configurations. So having the plug doesn't necessarily mean that the correct sear block is there. Just another detail to check. :D (I have Core's and they all have the frame plug, but none of them have the hole that allows the RAM to be installed, which I believe is where the safety resides.

BK is that right that a 5 inch slide will fit on a 4.25 inch frame? If you have the square frame plugs a RAM can't be installed.

The frames for a 4.25 and 5" slides are the same, I do it when I shoot IDPA and don't want to screw with removing the Deltapoint. Don't know about the frame plugs and the RAM, that's the way my Core is but if that's true throughout the models, I don't know. Like I said, Smith seems to mix and match parts without a pattern.

Thanks for that BK good to know I can put a 5" slide on my 4.25" frame.

Quick question. Will the Core 4.25 slide work on the new M&P 2.0 Compact? Safe to shoot? Thanks!
