I am new here so I hope my question is not to elementary. Just purchased this .38 from an auction as is. Three positions of the cylinder will not let the action operate. The next three positions it will then cycle fine through all cylinders. Also in the first three positions it is very hard to open the cylinder. Any info about the gun or the issue would be most helpful. Serial number 1K98365.

Thank You,
John

Welcome from Alaska. My first guess is a bent extraction rod. Check by opening the cylinder, lay the gun on it's right side, put a ruler or something under the cylinder on the table, and spin it. If it wobbles by an eighth of an inch or more, it has what 's called run-out, or, a bent rod. You can replace the rod, or straighten the bent one. If it doesn't wobble, then I'm wrong. The next guy might have better advice.

Welcome from Missouri. Find out what year it was manufactured and go to that part of the forum, or go to gun smithing to ask your question. Glad to meet you.

Welcome from Texas John. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.
