Beretta Not bad, but we need a change
I have read and heard quite a bit of talk lately about the next generation US Army side-arm. While I agree the Beretta has run its course I have to disagree with all the M9 bashing going on. It was a solid weapon; durable, easy to break down and clean, a solid shooter, easy safety...it was a perfect mass produced weapon for those who would probably never use it in a combat situation unless things got really bad. It's the round which is the issue, the 9mm has no place in a combat environment in the 21st century, particularly due to the proliferation of armor and other safeguards, even to local Afghans. I love S&W...I own a M&P .45 cap full size. I even own stock in the company. The army should at minimum be looking at this weapon which is just as durable, easy to clean/break down in the field, and is a very accurate shooter. While I don't necessarily agree that the .45 round is impractical in the field, I know that weight is always an issue. However, the army should dumpy the 9mm and look at the .40 or even the .357Sig. Any thoughts?
