So my wife and I have been binge watching the show Lucifer and the main character uses a Glock.

Almost every scene she surprises the bad guy your hear a distinct revolver cocking sound...on a Glock!

Would someone please make Hollywood stop?!

On another show someone says make sure you swipe off the safety before you pull the trigger...again on a Glock

Just a pet peeve of mine.

The first year of that show was good - interesting concept. The rest were okay. The most unbelievable part of the show, for me, was the 90 pound female lead detective throwing around all sorts of big, fit, dudes. :)

My biggest pet peeve in film is when they open a double action revolver and spin the cylinder. They always dub in the ratchet sound of a single action cylinder spinning.

Why spin it anyway? Outside of Russian Roulette it's pointless.

I'm gonna assume the editors of such movies have a crock pot full of evil gun sound bites and Maurice the sound guy (who knows zero about guns) looks at his gun noise chart and inserts what he feels what is an appropriately menacing bite or bites.
Do to our covid dilemma I've seen a lot of movies. Recent one had a bad guy with a Glock threatening a good guy. He had finger on the trigger and obviously the trigger was all the way rearward, meaning bad guy had an empty chamber.

I watched Fargo again last night. The scene in the car where one of the miscreants held up a revolver with the action open was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. I knew he was going to snap it shut with a flick of the wrist. I cringed and waited. Flick! I knew it.... Yeah, it's just a movie. But that was a real revolver suffering. Sure didn't see the credits stating "no guns were harmed in the making of this movie."

It's actually a good show and worth watching.

My personal favorite is when they are shooting a semi-auto with the slide locked back. Or the scene cuts to a different perspective and the hero is holding a different gun!

And don't get me started on car/motorcycle engine sounds...

Yes, I drive my wife crazy with this stuff... :p

One thing that gets me is a person has a pistol to another's head, ready to shoot, then he does something and it looks like a locked-back slide gets unlocked into the firing position when he's decided not to shoot the other. But, you'd think yeah, he has a decocking safety, but that's not the action they show; the gun does a bunch of weird clicky stuff to tell us they decided not to splatter brains all over.

Why does every gun on every tv show and movie constantly make clicking sounds when handled, picked-up, waved around, etc?

Pet peeve? Why? You should be glad that those who make these movies inform you up front of their credibility. Usually, the only warning you get is "Once upon a time . . . ."

Now that the hearing has gone, I find myself relying more and more on colsed captioning. I don't know how many times I have seen this:

"Sound of revolver cocking"

While the person on the screen is drawing a Glock.

You hear that revolver cocking sound in every scene when a gun is present, like Hollywood believes we don't know a gun when we see one. It's a pet peeve of mine too.

My favorite is the ribbon on the air vent. Let's see. The bad guy has threatened to turn off the air. We see him hit the switch. We hear the motors slow down and stop. We see the fans stop turning. But we just wouldn't understand the scene if we didn't see that ribbon on the vent slowly settle down and stop fluttering.
