So This 520 Walked Right Up To Me Yesterday...

I am kind of ignorant about these. How many were made & when?
That smacks of the .38-44 HD on steroids.
Beautiful gun, thanks for sharing.

I am also looking for a S&W Model 520 in new or like new condition.

What were the dates of manufacture...?

JMV366

As I recall the story, The 520s were already ordered and in production when S&W introduced the L-frame revolvers. NYSP decided they liked the L-frames better and canceled the order for the 520s. So S&W sold what 520s they had on the civilian market.

...would love to find one of these in a little more "used" condition and have it rechambered to .41 Special...with that short 27 style cylinder that would be perfect.
Could call it a Model 58 Keith....

The 520 is a great revolver. Just ran 50 rounds thru mine yesterday. I found one last fall it had been reblued but very tight action. I just could not put it down so took it home and now it goes with me each time I go to the range. I wish it had not been reblued but I can shoot mine as often as I want. Not a lot of 520 owners can say this.

Nice.

When i was collecting N frames, a couple of the guns that eluded me were the Model 20 and 520. I had a 3.5" Model 27-2 for CCW at one time, but the sights on the 520 are more snag proof.

After my 520 acquisition I came across this HD .357 conversion and the two come very close. The front sight is the most obvious. TT/TH on the HD were an afterthought. I think it's good to put the two together.

My 520

I just sold a 520 without the box and docs when I bought a 520 with box and most docs. These photos are lousy cell phone photos. Looks unfired in real life, but no telling if it was or not. I am into this one for just about a grand. Great guns for sure.
