So Who's Selling Off Their 3rd Gens Due to Lack of Parts

They do sell the parts. Read the other thread. They are still supporting the third gen.

I think some people are all wrapped around the wheel because they feel that in some dystopian future, all future guns and parts will be forbidden or heavily scrutinized for future purchases, or a shtf scenario leaves everyone left with what they have on hand. They want to have all sorts of parts to be self-sufficient for an extend period of time, even inter-generational. (Best solution, buy ANOTHER third gen........, not sell them). It's still a tool and a simple machine. Do not put it on a pedestal I'd you are using it for serious use.

If that is what is driving part of people having mass sell-off's, or even if it is just collectors getting out of the market, it's ill timed and irrational. I just don't get it. The information that caused this disruptive ripple proved to be partially false in the first place. Maybe we need to sticky S&W's official stance on the 3rd gen.

Agreed on all points! But hey, keep selling off the third gens. That's how I keep getting good deals on them! :)

I carry a 4506-1 with adjustable sights every single day, along with two spare mags on the other side. It by no means has an easy life!

I haven't gone to Rodman's Neck to qualify this cycle yet.I heard from a couple of guys I work with that the new recruits who were just hired weren't offered the 5946 just the glock and Sig.(NYPD)

My NYPD cousin tells me that is because they are trying to get the m&p 9mm to work well enough to adopt it.

Evidently they got the full size to pass their T&E, but the compact has not. To date. He says it is because of a problem with the compact and the Speer duty round. Regards 18DAI

Get rid of this awesome 3913? Never! It's like the G19s of S&W 3rd gen semi autos. The only thing I worry about is the shortage of mags.
Incidentally, can anyone date my 3913? VAC####
Also, what's a better way off posting images other than these puny thumbmails?
Thanks

Are you unaware that you can click on the thumbnail pic & it will go to full size?

WOW! Figured the tank of a 5946 would outlast them all! The Glocks were always being tweaked (phase 3 malfunctions and re-cutting ejection ports) and the SIG finishes were wearing away, so every 226 in service was sent to Rodman's Neck for a treatment.

If S&W has stopped offering the 5946 to the NYPD, then the parts are gone, period.

I was at the academy a few months back and asked a range guy about the M&P. Said it didn't survive the testing phase. Don't know which he was talking about, full size or compact. But if they're gonna offer an M&P off duty, make it the Shield. I bet S&W would make a non-safety version for such a big contract.

Yep, just tried it on my laptop which I haven't used in two years. I do everything on my Android now and forgot that it would do that but I wanted to not use thumbnails at all when presenting images in my posts.

Sold my boat anchor 4506-1 R3, box, papers, etc yada yada yada blah blah blah due to lack of like. Didn't like the feel or ergonomics of that Smith, felt like a steel girder in my hands. Carry that boat anchor all day long? For what? LOL
My 1911's point much better and feel like part of my hand, so I'll stick with them. Even my Ruger 1911CMD. ;)
Used the funds to buy a 627-0 boat anchor :D, never to look back. :)

I have many more 3rd G's in my safe, all are expendable as all my guns are, I don't worship any of them.

Oh almost forgot, all my 1911's have been flawless right out of the box, even my inexpensive Ruger 1911 CMD. My guns must be the exception. ;)
