So why will people

Maybe a Taurus is all they can afford. I don't look down my nose at people that have them. In fact I have a Taurus 605, a Taurus PT92 & I bought my daughter, she picked it out, a PT111 Millennium Pro. All shoot great, never had a problem with any of them & none have had to be sent back to be fixed. :)

Can't say the same with several of my Smiths.

I love My PT111 9mm, one of my favorite pistols!! and the price is not why bought it i could have bought any pistol i wanted to that day but it felt good and felt right and it has given me no reason to look back.Hell i might even get the .40 cal.:D

I've never been brand snobbish. I've shot and owned many brands, including a couple of Taurus models. The best gun is the one you have with you.
Ditto. I have owned guns by Iver Johnson, Colt, GSG, MAB, Marlin, Mossberg, Norinco, Rossi, Ruger, Savage, Stevens, SIG, S&W, Stoeger, and Taurus.

Quality varies from brand to brand and even gun to gun within the different brands. I have more S&W than anything else, but Taurus is the second most common in my safe. They may not be quite up to S&W quality standards but I haven't had any significant issues with them either and IMO they are a good value.

Of course I have only bought one brand new gun in my whole life, so the price difference between a used Taurus and a used S&W in comparable configuration and condition is MUCH more significant than the new vs. used comparison that the OP is making. Instead of costing $100 more, what I've seen it is more common for a S&W to cost 100% more (i.e. twice as much) than a Taurus in the same caliber and condition...

I won't hesitate to buy a Taurus revolver if I see one I want. I just check it out the same way I would any other revolver. I've never gotten a bad one that way.

I don't look at the new ones though. But then I don't look at new Smith & Wessons...or Rugers...or any other gun really.
