With about 20 days until the introduction of "THE SHIELD" someone has to know more about this new gun. I'm getting the itch for a new toy. Is it worth waiting for intro day to see what it is? Someone has to know! I just can't believe that S&W can keep this under wraps this long, their tighter lipped than the CIA.

Yes I'm also very curious as to what they're getting ready to drop on us. I'm debating which pistol to get next...M&P 9 Pro, standard M&P 9with some upgrades, or go all out with an M&P 45.

I alrady have an M&P9 and I'm hopeing that it's a micro 9mm thats better than the Bodyguard 380 or the ruger LC9. For CC and police back up gun.

If it follows the usual pattern, whatever they announce won't actually be available for purchase in gun shops for about a year...so, you have time to buy something now and still save for the new product.

I read an article about the new CEO at Taurus, and he supposedly said that he is not going to announce new products in the future until they are ready to ship out. Not that I am interested in buying any more Taurus products (or at least not until they have a significant history of revised QC and service...revised for the better, I mean) but I wish other manufacturers would follow this model. I understand marketing, and building interest, but it turns me off...I get interested in something new, spend time and effort trying in vain to find it, and then when it finally hits the stores, I have lost interest and spent money on something else.

I'm anxiously awaiting the announcement too. Watch it be a small version of the Governer! That would disappoint me which is putting it so mild it's probably not accurate.

I have my money on a single stack 9 like the LC9. My next bet is on a single stack 45 like the XDS.

But what has me questioning is what they'd put the M&P logo on. Would the do that with a LC9 copycat? Me thinks not. But me thinks too much.

And who's to say it a new gun? Maybe just a new generation of M&P's? With a reworked trigger from the factory? Here I go thinking again.

One of the links above says it is already in production and may be available to buy by the time the announcement is made.

It's not too long til April 12th so we'll find out soon enough :)

Hmm...the only link in this thread (which is what I assume you mean by "above") is for the video...which I was able to watch...but it didn't say anything about availability that I caught.

From watching the video, I would say that it is a product that is in the M&P line and geared toward carry and/or self-defense. Those are assumptions, but the references to car jackings and home invasions would lead one to make that assumption. Of course, one doesn't need a single stack 9mm to defend home or car!

I would really like to see a smaller, single stack M&P to compete with the LC9, and other similar offering currently available by other manufacturers. If it was similar to the Kahr CW9, I would buy the first one I could find!

I'm going to take a different tack.

Because of the name, SHIELD, and something about that video I can't quite put my finger on, I'm going to hazard a guess that it will be some type of non-lethal, personal defense device.

Something along the lines of pepper spray, pepper foam, tazer or something similar. Possibly with some novel or unique packaging or capabilities.

That would stink, I'm sorry but I don't look to S&W for non -lethal product. I don't want to pepper spray a robbing thug, or get close enough to the stinkey low-life to taze him. I turn to S&W to remove him from the gene pool!

It's a new improved, smaller for even better concealment, the old favorite model 3913.

Hey, it could happen. :D

I keep dreaming that S&W will stop putting locks on their revolvers too.... :p

The shield, sounds like an alarm system of some kind. I don't see a handgun being called the shield.

I was at a Smith and Wesson day recently and we were talking about concealled carry guns. I told him where I lived near Columbus, Ohio. He said I need to be at Vance's Gun store on April 15th. He would not discuss what it was any further. But what ever they are going to anounce will be available then.

Did you bother reading the text around the video? :)

found more info last night. Apparently Caleb of Gun Nuts got to go shoot this new gun. He posted this last night on his FB:

"Caleb Giddings: I promise that on 12APR at 0900 Pacific time I'll have a BOATLOAD of content about it. Whatever it is. ;-) We just got done shooting it today. "

He specifically said "shooting" it and very excited about it. so it WILL NOT be some kinda of taser or personal protection product that is not a gun.
