They opened 3 Sonics within 5 miles of each other in my area about 8-10 years ago. A couple have been closed and vacant for 4-5 years and the last one closed up a couple years ago. One has an urban barbershop in it and the other 2 are sitting vacant long term.

Those ads are definately "out there" but they annoy me less than many others and a couple made me chuckle the first couple times I saw them.

Strato: You are a better person than I. I tried Sonic twice in two different towns here in the West. I got lousy food and lousy service. I see one on a main arterial here in my suburb of Las Vegas. I hardly ever see a car pulled up there. I don't see how they stay in business.

Two things I like about Sonic.....

They are a drive-in where drive-ins hardly exist any more.

They have classic car nights where the lot is full of vintage cars and spills over onto the big parking lot next door.

That's about all I like about Sonic.

Oh, and their banana milkshakes are good. I can't eat peanuts because I'm allergic to them (I've had several close calls) I ordered my usual banana milk shake and kept telling my wife, 'This shake doesn't taste right. It tastes like...like.....PEANUTS!" Seems somebody's peanut butter had gotten mixed in with my banana. I stopped eating it but my throat was closing up.

The two dufi irritate me badly also, but I can't comment on the food or the service. I've never been to a Sonic.

When I hear the word I think of a vibrating metal fishing lure that can be deadly on white bass and smallmouth.

I was really excited to move to a place with a Sonic.

Then I ate there...

Never again. Except for ice cream and drinks. Just not coffee... they served me one with curdled milk once. And I'll only pay with cash...they kept my credit card once, denied they had it and called me 4 hours later after I cancelled it to tell me they had it.

They are a local company, but I will no longer provide them with my business.

A year ago this month they gave moms demand press release material - asking us to leave our guns in our vehicles if we decide to eat at a table. They didn't go so far as to post their restaurants. Funny that - perhaps they're hoping that we'll forget.

Search "sonic firearms policy" for info.

Am I the only one who refuses to go to Sonic because the two morons in the commercials might be there?:D:mad::eek:
nah, the other morons there do though. :)
I sometimes will stop during drink happy hour or a half-price after 8 milkshake. G-kids like their slushes too but havent tried a burger, hot dog, etc. in years.

Was driving home today from North Carolina. I stopped at a Sonic in Pennsylvania. Never been to one before. It was kind of neat seeing the girls come out to wait on the cars in the drive-in on their roller skates. The chicken strips and onion rings were just OK....nothing to write home about. The milk shake was pretty good.

My first experience with Sonic I went with a friend. When they finally brought out our food they told my friend his fries would be right out. The ultra thin tasteless burgers on stale buns were disgusting but fortunately only took two bites to eliminate. They only gave me about 5 or 6 fries and they were soggy and cold. After we finished what we had my friend pressed the button and heard "Welcome to Sonic. May I take your order?" to which he replied "Yea I never got my fries." They assured him they would be right out. After waiting about 10 minutes he pressed the button again to hear "Welcome to Sonic." This time his reply was "What about my [expletive] fries?" They asked him if that was all he'd like to order and he about lost it. He had that look like he was about to go inside and do something stupid so I convinced him to just pull next door to Wendy's as I was still hungry too.

I tried two different ones since then and the burgers, fries and hot dogs were like something you'd get from a vending machine and the service was slow at best.

I hear their ice cream is pretty good though.

We have a Sonic in our town and it rarely has cars in its lot. That one was closed and a new one was build about two blocks away with a lot twice the size of the old one. Now they have twice as much space to hold the cars which are never there. My wife and I have bets on how long this new place will be open!
