Pick the pistol you shoot best with & ensure it is reliable as that will be the one you hopefully never need to save your life or the lives of others but if it happens the firearm will function and you will hit the mark.

I went to the range a couple months ago with a buddy from the Detroit Police... he brought his Gen 3 G19.
It really, really did shoot nice...
I honestly like the fit/feel of the MP better than Glocks, personal preference all the way.

I'm not surprised, I don't know if 9mm is more inherently accurate or if the vast majority of people happen to shoot 9mm more accurately than .40. I suspect you'd also be less accurate with a G23 and more accurate with a 9mm M&P or M&P with 9mm conversion barrel.... Either way the G19 is a fine gun and you'll do well with it. I like Glocks, I just happen to like M&Ps a a bit better.

This is a good observation. I'll bet it's the latter.

I suspect that people struggle with the sharp recoil from the .40S&W more. Because they anticipate less recoil, the 9mm allows the shooter to relax more and this improves accuracy.

I don't believe that one is inherently more accurate than the other by virtue of caliber.
 
That's ok, it's all good. I recently sold my much heralded, overrated ,4506-1 R3, never really liked the way it sat in my hands or it's size, for a real nice 627-0 5 1/2 inch revolver. But they make great sledge hammers.
Revolvers are my first love anyways, so no big loss. Besides, I have my 1911's. ;)

15 head shots from my M&P 40 with storm lakes 9mm conversion barrel at 15 yards off hand. 15 shots to center mass with the Glock 19 today at 15 yards off hand. I shot both guns today, my father shot both as well and he shot the M&P better as well...

to each his own. hope you are happy with it, sounds like you will be. glocks are good guns, no doubt...but I am the exact opposite as you. I would not take ANY glock for free, if I had to keep it and shoot it. I hate the grip angle, and the 2x4 look of the glocks, and I cannot shoot them for ****(I blame the bad{for me} grip angle. they are obviously great guns, a lot of people swear by them...but they are not for everyone. they are tough as nails too, and that is always nice...dependable, a must...good thing they don't have to be pretty to shoot well though! lol, good luck and I hope you are happy with your new gun. no need to be sorry, shoot what ya like. shoot strait and good luck with your new venture.
 
I own both. The Glocks aren't pretty but they do shoot well and usually all the time.

Mike, I too own Glocks, and shoot my Duty G-37 well. Still love my M&P Pro9 and trying to figure it out, different weapons for different applications.:cool:
 
I have a Shield 9 and had a 9c, my wife bought me a Glock 17 last Christmas against my wishes, she told me if I don't go for the Glock I get nothing so I think I made the right choice and went with the Glock. I'm not crazy about the grip angle on the Glock (Gen 3) but after a little work on the trigger pull I shoot the 17 so damn good it made the 9c look like a shotgun blast grouping compared to the 17, I sold the 9c and now I'm thinking about going for an M&P FS 9, I'm just afraid I will shoot no better with it than I did with the 9c. BTW, I love my Shield.

I had the same problem myself. I had a 40 that never shot good. It was always a struggle to manage recoil without pulling low in anticipation of said recoil and follow up shops were always much slower than with my Shield 9. I thought maybe it was just my 40 so I borrowed a friends Gen 3 G23 and it was way worse. I just chalked it up to 40 being very snappy no matter the size or brand of firearm. I sold my 40 and purchased a full size M&P 9 to match my Shield and I can literally drive nails with this thing. I put 100 rounds threw a 2 inch hole in the center of the target. 9 is much better IMO. Glad you found a firearm that works well for you. Trust me I know how frustrating it can be to drop 4 or 500 bucks on a gun that never seems to shoot as well as you expect it to. :) Congrats again!!

I hope that your personal glock will shoot the same for you as the rental glock. Not only is there some variation between manufacturers, there is variation from pistol to pistol from the same manufacturer, and the same production run even.

It wouldn't surprise me to hold a rental with a very smooth trigger, as how often it gets fired helps to smooth everything out. I am in no way trying to discourage you from getting yourself a glock, but just don't be surprised if it doesn't give you the exact same results as that rental gun you tried.

Nope. Gen4 has dual recoil springs. Makes for improved accuracy...especially on follow up shots.

You didn't jump ship. You just added a second style boat to your fleet.:cool:
 
I just acquired my third M&P, this one a Shield and will be selling/trading my g23 to find another M&P or upgrades.

I can't figure how the recoil springs make the gun more accurate...the bullet is gone by the time the springs are doing their job...you'll have to educate me there. Now, if you were to say you like the feel of this set up and you shoot it better I can certainly understand that. JMHO.:)

If I were to bench all my guns I would be surprised if some were truly more accurate than others...but I can surely tell you that there are some that I shoot more accurately.
