I don't go to Starbucks often but I do go. Yes the coffee is expensive and it's really not that great. But my daughter is manager at one of their stores. And she's a gun lover!

I'm really irritated by this. Carrying a gun is supposed to be to protect yourself. NOT educating others. Open carry is an excuse to show off and appear manly. They open carry with a loaded gun but got nothing between the ears.

For those with the ability to read "between the lines", his statement DOES NOT attempt to prohibit concealed carry in their stores!

This man has a business to run, and he's understandably tired of the media circus and the distraction it has become. If acceptable cc is not enough for you, and only open carry will make you happy...then it's you who has the problem...not Starbucks!

Reading the responses to this reminds me this why I like this forum among gun forums; these fellow forum members.

I honestly didn't even know about the open carry/Starbucks issue, and now that I do, I find myself siding with the overwhelming majority here in that openly carrying to Starbucks, for its own sake, is simply ill advised.

The problem is the open carry folks don't know when to quit and they don't use any common sense.

We have discussed open carry versus concealed here many times and most agree that OC has no significant advantages over concealed.

OC is merely a statement. It is their wish to be seen doing something that is their right. That's all. Nothing more. They wish to educate the public about their right to open carry. But do you think that anti gun people care about our rights? If they cared or were interested, they would ask. But instead a few simple mind folks want to force feed that education to the public whether they want it or not and the attitude is "tough, it's MY right".

Our founding fathers wrote the Bill of Rights and expected us to use some COMMON SENSE.

Sorry, but I won't stand with those that OC. Again, it does not in any way represent me or my view about gun ownership. It makes us all look bad.

Instead gun owners, ALL gun owners need to do what they know is right and true. If you carry concealed, it must STAY concealed. We must practice what we preach and obey all safety precautions and be RESPONSIBLE gun owners. WE MUST STAY OUT OF THE LIMELIGHT.

COMMON SENSE is what is needed! Why in the name of good judgement would you advertise and make yourself a target by carrying a gun in the open in a populated area. I can tell you, if you walk into my store carrying an exposed gun without a badge close by both my son and I , who I might add are NRA life members, will be on full alert and prepared to blow you away if you make the slightest wrong move. Why in God's name do you have to advertise being a "tough guy" by carrying an openly displayed firearm. In polite company I expect good and decent people to be prepared to take care of their selves and their family. Understand I have spent my life in the company of tough and" dangerous" men who have seen the "elephant " on more than one occasion and to a man you would never know they are willing and ready to meet what ever threat is presented to them until it arises. Remember, Speak softly and carry a big stick, just do it concealed for your own safety and show good judgement and don't shove the fact that you are carrying in the face of people who will think you are some kind of a nut! Believe me when I say many of us who support the right to carry also think you are both foolish and needlessly endangering yourself and those around you by being an "amateur tough guy". I should add that when I am in the wild I carry a large caliber handgun in the open, BUT SO DOES everybody else. When in town I may carry the same cannon , except you won't know it until I need it and then damned if I care if it's seen. Until that time ,it will be well concealed. All my very best Joe Kent.

Well, certainly not for THEIR coffee, which has too much caffeine and tastes awful. Even a doctor warned me to avoid their coffee. Oddly, it's allowed to be sold at the VA hospital here.

Again, open carry does nothing to prevent or stop crime nor does it have any advantages over concealed carry.

If you truly believe what you just wrote, you need to reevaluate your mindset.

Simply having a gun is not enough. It means nothing if you don't have the right mindset, situational awareness, training and practice.

Here in Florida I have to be camping, fishing, hunting or shooting to open carry.But it would be unlawful to carry open while working. It is lawful to carry open on your property but not on somebody else's, even if he allows it

You can imagine how great it is to work in the sun with a concealed firearm here in Florida. My main reason is to protect myself from snakes, gators and other creatures trying to kill me.

Open carrying has its reasons. Here in Florida you run around 90% of the year only in flip flops, shirt and shots. It is not hard to spot a printing firearm, so what is the difference between open carry and a firearm printing through the shirt?

It's not so much the anti-gun people I care about when it comes to open carry. Anti's are just anti's.

The problem I see is that there are many people whose lives don't revolve around the precise meaning of the 2nd Ad. They're not anti gun or pro gun. They recognize the right to own guns and don't mind if someone carries concealed, but don't want to take their wifes, kids, or grandkids into a store where people are openly carrying hand guns and certainly not where people are carrying long guns. They respect the 2nd amendment but don't want a bunch of people they don't know flashing guns in their faces.

Of course there are some areas where guns are a much bigger part of life and open carry isn't a big deal. However, that's not the feeling of the vast majority of people I know in my relatively gun friendly home state and town. Gunsmoke's version of Dodge City isn't where people want to live. The more of this that takes place the more likely businesses are to restrict carry. That hurts us all.

There's a big difference as far as I'm concerned. I can understand your situation and won't begrudge you for trying to protect yourself. It perfectly illustrates that there is a time and place for OC.

As far as weather is concerned, no offense, but that's an excuse. I'm not perfect and I don't know it all. I'm just an average guy. If I can conceal a firearm in the summer heat, everyone can.

And for snakes there isn't a more perfect gun than a J frame with shot shells.

Even under a light wt. shirt. under the eyes of the "law" it is CONCEALED and not visable to the eyes of the untrained. Believe me a man or for that matter a woman who's life may depend on "knowing who is armed and who is not" can often tell or stongly suspect who "might" be or is carrying a gun. Keep your sidearm covered until you need it and then have the training and good judgement to use it effectively. If I were a "person with Ill intent", and saw that you were OPEN CARRYING, I would shoot you FIRST (with my concealed weapon)...and then TAKE YOURS - now I have an extra gun to complete my deed! Thank you very much!!

Xtasy, I do understand what you are saying, but in all my years of carrying a gun, I have never found it to be comfortable, but rather comforting to have it if needed. And to my friend , Kanewpadle, I must disagree about a j-frame with shot loads, Nothing beats a 12 Ga. and distance from snakes, but my personal favorite is a Model 696 44Special with speer snake loads { I have successfully used it on Rattlers on more than one occasion}. There's nothing comfortable about carrying a gun. It's a way of life. It takes complete and total dedication. Some are willing and some aren't.

But yes, working actively with a gun stinks. At work, my gun is locked in my work vehicle during warm weather.

as stated before somewhere most bad guys are not everyday shooters...ill take my chances. i shoot almost everyday and im trained in every weapon i have and have taken extensive classes on pressured shooting. if the first shot misses-mine wont and thats good enough for me.

I absolutely can! Cant stand OC. Pull my pants down. CC....the gun is held firmly between my hip and belt. I wear an undershirt

my point has nothing to do with open carry or concealed carry your opinions on either. it has to do with starbucks taking a stance against gun owners, after the gun owners spent a lot of money to offset boycotts.

yes, the open carry people went to far and my guess is that many of them would not normally open carry, but were doing it to make a point.

I, like many of you, see no point in open carry in a metropolitan environement, but understand that some states recognize it(mine included) as a right.

we need to stand against all oppression, this is not any better than magazine limits, or barrel shrouds being the things that go up. it's a foothold for another crack at all of us.

i know the difference, but why should it matter whether it is the government or a CEO. DO you not think that their may be political ties to starbucks. It is nearly impossible for large corporations to not have some political ties.
