Stock 15-22 Flash suppressor

I am afraid that it won't be legal (compliant) in Massachusetts (where they are made)
This state is so messed up. I think the law is you can have either a pistol grip or a suppressor or a bayonet lug but not 2 of them or 3 of them, I have to check.

you can have any 2 items. its the gayest gun-state ive ever seen!

"Ambidextrous Load-Assist Button" is located on each side of the magazine. Pretty pretentious name for it though. ;)

According to Four Seasons (fsguns) the M&P with the compensator is not Mass Legal. I tried to call Smith and Wesson but they are closed for the week.

I guess it is too dangerous for people in Mass, it is funny that the same gun without a comp is MA Legal but with it, it is suddenly too dangerous.

haven't shot my new toy yet...wonder if i should return it and buy one with a comp? it'll be a hassle but so would getting the barrel threaded.

What in the world are they talking about with the "Ambidextrous Load-Assist Button"?

It's a big improvement over the old style "Non-Ambidextrous Load-Assist Button" on so many other .22LR magazines.

Unmentioned in the list of impressive new engineering developments is the M&P 15-22 Ambidextrous 6 Position Stock Lever.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I would just have the barrel threaded. It's a simple enough proceedure, most any machine shop can do it. The time and paperwork involved seems like a nightmare to me.
All ya gotta do is remove the barrel nut, and slide the barrel out of the upper.

you're right, the paperwork would be tedious. i just don't want to get stuck paying some guy $100 to put a half inch of threads on my barrel. besides, i don't know how many guys have experience threading barrels and i don't want to chance it getting screwed up. is it relatively easy to do for an average machinest?

i wonder if i could send the barrel back to smith and exchange it for a new barrel for a small fee. mine is unfired. i'd call them but they are all on vacation apparently. must be nice.

The barrel has no taper, until the last 4 inches or so around the chamber. So if they can chuck the barrel in a collet, three jaw chuck or 4 jaw chuck, they should have no problem. The list goes from fastest/least expensive to slowest most accurate most expensive. You want the threads to be concentric to the bore within a few thousanths of an inch. Especially for suppressors. You generally want 5/8" length of threads. It took me a total of 1/2 hour from the time I walked up to the manual lathe, loaded the tools, machined the barrel and cleaned up. I even took some pics that did not turn out. Whatever you do, do NOT have threads put on with a die.
Try your local Community College and have the teacher do the job as a demo for the students.
Best of luck to you. Let us know the end result.

Your gun store allows returns?

well, in all honesty, i don't know. i would assume that an unfired gun could be returned but i could easily be wrong. in any event, i'm going to keep it. too much hassle either way. i'll just wait for my ATF suppressor license and then get the barrel threaded. besides, i have more goodies on the way to mount on this little black beauty so i can finally go SHOOTING!

Most gun stores will not take a gun back once it is out the door. There is one in my area that will take a new unfired gun back withing 48 hours of sale. Helps a guy out if SHTF at home with the new purchase. :o

Have fun with your new 15-22. :D

I just picked up my barrel from the local gunsmith. I dropped it of yesterday afternoon. Cost $50 and it came out perfect.

Hey one quick question YZ-moto. I have the older style 15.22 that doesnt have the flash hider. I see u had a gunsmith thread the end for the suppresor you got from midway. I have called two gunsmiths today and they both told me this procedure would require time because if its anything like the real M&P15; it would require removal of the barrel to be done correctly. Do u know if they had to remove the barrel? thx jay

I didnt even look into it, but can anyone tell me how the barrel is removed? Is it simple? thx again jay
