I store my handguns in there orginal blue or black plastic cases. I been trying to figure out what's the best rust protectant that will last between shooting them and my time table for the scheduled wipe down and adding more protectant.

I just tried for 6 months the G96 silicone gun spray protectant.
I'm thinking every 6 months a wipe down and reapply the rust preventative.

I use the parchment paper and pretty much wrap the complete gun up in it. After its sprayed with the G96. Then it's placed in its orginal plastic case and in the safe it goes.

Every gun I took out looks perfect after being lubed up in September. I notice the parchment paper absorbs some of the silicone spray. But the guns are dripping wet when I wrap them. I reuse the wet paper as its extra protection against rust.

What scared me in the beginning is I purchased a upshot m29-10 and left my eye glasses at home. It had a small spot of freckling when I inspected it when I resprayed it. I thought I did it. But now after doing what I always do it had to be there when I purchased it. The simi-chrome Polish removed it, I got lucky.

I Make sure I wipe and spray them often to be safe.

What do you do to your guns to store them to prevent rust?

Btw, I tried to compare the older N frames action wise to the new N frames to see if there is a difference between the new actions that are lubed with moly. Both old and new actions are so smooth it's hard to tell the difference. Both actions felt awesome.

I purchased a s&w k22 masterpiece target revolver that had minor freckling, and a s&w k38 combat masterpiece that had the same minor freckling from the same dealer. Both guns were affordable and probably turned in from the same guy. I took out the simi-chrome Polish and the freckling turned out to be dried oil. They both cleaned up perfect.

It's oil vs silicone?

What about CLP?

Is there something better for long term storage? Or 4 to 6 month storage?

I clean them, apply a fresh coat of wax, then into a silicon treated bag. Works well for me. I make sure I check everything over at leas every six months. I also re-spray storage bags yearly.

Eezox is the best corrosion protection product available. CorrosionX is also good. Both are long lasting protectants.

Wax for my stuff. I really like the way it feels-non oily- and so far about 3 years on, all of my guns look great. For what its worth the safe has two golden rods in it and they are on 24/7. No more oil or another type sprays on my stuff, just the wax. I couldn`t be more pleased with how well it works.

Sir,

I've been using Corrosion X for 10 years or so on all my guns, which are stored in their foam-lined cases, sometimes for many months on end. I've not had a speck of rust on any of them at any time.

Regards,
Andy

Eezox then onto a safe shelf with one of those plastic countermats on the shelves so carpeting doesn't hold any moisture against the gun, which there shouldn't be any way because there's a golden rod in there, too.

For a gun I want to keep but know I'll probably never shoot fornyears (or fondle LOL) I'll use eezox then stick it in a Z-Corr bag.
