Strange/odd names for towns/places I'll start

South of where I live is Bill, Wyoming. Home of the Bill Yacht Club. Not too far from Dull Center.

A few from North Texas:

Telephone
Direct
Dial
Bug Tussle
Squeeze Penny
Lick Skillet
Frog Knot
Hog Waller
Most of these are no longer Towns as they were in the old days. Still have signs but most buildings are long gone. They are classified as a Community with just a few residences. There are more but this is off the top of my head.

Here in Indiana, we got French Lick, Gnawbone and Beanblossom.

In Illinois, if you go North on US 45 from Mattoon, you'll hit Arcola, then Tuscola before you get to Champaign.

The old joke goes that a Chicagoan stops in Mattoon for gas and asks what the next towns are.

The attendant says first you'll hit Arcola and then about 10 miles later you'll get to Tuscola.

The Chicagoan says if you say the next town is Coca-Cola or Pepsi Cola, I'll KYA!!

The attendant said: "Nope, Champaign!!!"

On Route 23 not far north of Columbus is a sign for a crossing route marked:

Waldo
Prospect

I've never heard of the guy, and yet the state posts a sign on a major route telling drivers where they can find him.

Here in Tennessee, I lived in Defeated. It was just down the way from Difficult.
Real optimists, here in the ol' Volunteer State.

The area I was in was Bear Wallow Gap, just off of The Devils Elbow.
On the other side of the county, you'll find Seabowisha.

One of my favorite names is Beaver Lick, KY. It's near Big Bone Lick.

In east Ky
Smackey bottom

Pumpkin center
Greasy creek
Butcher knife
Stinking branch

In Alaska and parts of Canada and the Yukon, roadhouses are the social centers of a community. Half way between Fairbanks and Nenana Alaska is such a roadhouse. Its name is world famous, "Skinny Dicks Half Way Inn" and a must visit place when in the area.
