Am looking for information on early S&Ws. I know I can get any reasonable (and have) question answered here however, I was wondering if there is another site containing pictures, diagram, and general information on the web. Looking at New Departures, Model 1 1/2s, etc.
Minimal luck locating to date. Would also like a basic disassembly source if possible.

Get copies of the various books on handgun assembly/disammbly, etc. such as the NRA & Gun Digest Exploded Views. Stoegers also printed similar books. These sources will give you most of the early S&Ws, specially the earlier editions of these books. The Neal & Jinks book on S&Ws also has xray photos of asssembled guns showing the interior parts. If you have reasonable mechanical skills, none of the early S&Ws are really complicated. Buy a junker gun and take it apart slowly, observing how each part fits & functions - then put it back together. Do this a couple of times and you will have knowedge most modern gun smiths haven't. A good set of screw drivers and pin punches will be 90% of the tools you need. Ed.

NucSub,
Ed makes a darn good point.
It's amazing how LITTLE revolver technology has changed since the turn of the (last) century!
I would also suggest one of Jerry Kuhnhausen's books, 'The S&W Revolver'.
It's an illustrated, step-by-step manual of maintenance and repair , the tools needed, and correct procedures.
Read, read, read...
And enjoy!
Don

Here's a suggestion, before you start taking it apart. Get your digital camera out and take pics of each step as you go. A phone call or family emergency can leave you scratching your head on Tuesday going "Where did THAT go?"

Purchased the 2nd edition today. Has information for many different manufacturers and models. At a glance, excellent book that will prove very useful for any type gun.
Thank you all for your time and opinions.
