I just came from the gun shop and had to pick up a new toy while I was there. I got a new Sigma.
Now, I had a Sigma a couple years ago. I had one of the 40F models. It was a very reliable, accurate gun, but I traded it off for something "better". Now, I'm back. I looked at Glocks, but why pay so much more for a similar gun when I can buy a US made gun that feels so much better in my hands?
The "F" series did have a slightly longer barrel, I think. But the VE has a very nice balance to it.
We just had a 6-7 inch snowfall over the weekend. I may be able to get to the outdoor range I shoot at, but I may not be able to get back out. I may wait until next weekend to take it out and try it.
Anyway, I'm happy with this gun. It's alot of gun for the money.
Oh, I did realize that the shop didn't give me a proper receipt for it. I'll need that for the rebate promotion won't I?

receipt is one of the items you will need for the rebate....good luck shooting! Let us know how yours performed...hopefully better than mine did out of the box :(
 
Congrats! SW9VE Allied Forces (black slide) that I love.

It certainly is a lot of gun for the money.

Let us know how you like it once you run a few hundred through it.
 
You'll have no trouble with it if you shoot factory ammo for a while till it's broken in. The thing could use some dry firing to smooth out the trigger. Some loads work better than others, just like any other gun.

Before, things were bad, but apparantly have improved considerably.
Like any other purchase, there are exceptions, but S&W is quick to fix if you give them all the details.

I have the SW9VE and I would not trade it for all the Glocks in the world. Right out of the box it was dead on. Perfect for ccw. The best holster I found is made by Black Hawk. GREAT GUN!!!!
 
For me

I guess it comes down to feel. didnt like the feel of the glock 22 but liked the feel of the M&P and thought the sigma felt great. Now I can get the sigma 40 for $360 before the $50 mail in rebate or an M&P 40 for $500. A $200 differnencec is a lot. What do you guys think is the betetr option here?
 
It really depends on the purpose of the pistol. For what is that you plan to use the pistol?

I have a Sigma for home defense. It is a nice handgun and has been very reliable every time I take it to the range. It is not a joy to shoot or anything and I'd never take it out plinking for an afternoon. And it is too big for me to carry concealed. Nevertheless, I like the gun and would bet my life on it at home.

Sigma is a very, good gun and it's a great value. The M&P is a great gun and reasonably priced. I have nothing negative to say about a Glock, except some models seem to be priced a bit high . . .

I can't make a recommendation for you-- but there are lots of good, reliable compacts and subcompacts to pick from. Some are good; some are GREAT. Pricewise they go from quite reasonable to very pricey. You need to consider YOUR accuracy with the gun. How comfortable YOU are with the gun. How reliable it is . . . What you can afford. Lots to consider.

Look at these: Glock 27 & 23 / S&W M&P Compact / HK Compact USP / Kel-Tec P-40 and there are many others.

I personally would love the HK, but in reality I cary a Kel-Tec. It certainly is not something that will pass down to my grand kids-- but it has gone bang everytime I tried to fire it-- can't ask for much more. It's a "handful" when fired and not suitable for everyone-- and it's ugly, so I keep it concealed. I hope to NEVER, ever have to show it.

You have your mind made up to carry a .40? Lot's of very, good modern 9mm ammo out there today; it is a viable option for SD/CC/CDW.
 
Thanks Rick, the only reason im looking at a 40 is i'm going to be doing a lot of bow hunting for Elk out west and want something that will stop a mountain lion and "distract" a bear if necessary. Also, I really only plan on having one pistol so I thought a 40 would be the best option. Problem is I live in MA and the laws are crazy.
 
You're right-- you want all you can carry. Me-- well, I carry a .357 Mag revolver: good penetration and quite a bit of energy.

I bought my SW40VE a 19months ago. I have three other handguns but the Sigma is still one of the most reliable. It has never FTF or FTE. I have approx. 400+ rounds through it. I put a pachmayr rubber grip glove on it which has made it much more comfortable to shoot.
 
New Sigma...

I just bought the SW40VE about three weeks ago at a local show... I was not "in the market" for another pistol even though I didn't have a .40 (about the only standard caliber I didn't have).

At the show there was a vendor selling them for $309 before the $50 rebate (or 2 mags). I couldn't believe a .40 S&W auto for only $259!!!

My wife happened to be with me at this show and I tried my best to not buy this gun. She kept saying "if it is that good of a price, and you don't have one... you should go ahead and get it!"

Man I love that woman!

This is only my second SW pistol, my other is a 642-2. That I use for daily carry. I am very impressed with the Sigma although when I find the information again I will probly send it off for the trigger job!

Congrats on your new gun. I too am the proud new owner of a 9VE. I only wish they were offered in a .45ACP. Wow! What a steal that would be! Good Luck with yours; mine was perfect right out' the box, but then so was my 469 20-odd years ago. Still runs perfectly to this day. S&W offers real quality for reasonable prices.

new sigma 40cal

Just joined the club, got my sw40ve the other day, no chance to shoot it yet, too freakin cold. I have seen a few places and youtube videos where people have mounted a laser sight to the rail. Not sure if I really want/ need to. Might be a good addition. any input?
 
I will hold out on the laser till they make one that replaces the guide pin like on the MP's or a slip-on Crimson Trace type. Too much stuff hanging on the front is just more stuff to snag... if it's a HD gun that is sitting on top of the bedside table then go for it. I bought a 9mm that had one on it, for a few weeks, then off it came. I had one on my (other brand) .40 but could never get the pressure pad to feel right so off it came as well. Kind of a personal preference I believe. Plus on some you have to buy the adapter for the Sigma rail...

I chose to buy my SW40VE with the sub compact V2- mini Rail laser system (FSR-00V2-140) with the Rail Mount Adapter Smith & Wesson Sigma (ADP-SIGM-140).

I couldn't be happier...it fits like a glove on the front and doesn't hang down or look gaudy in anyway. The gun will still fit into sigma holsters. One could also add the accessory rail for a flashlight or whatever. It comes with the accessory rail, however I see no need for it at the present time.

I just love this sight. It's a ton of fun!

I'd like to see a picture of that. Most of the laser sights didn't look too good when I was shopping. The CT they're coming out with is way too much money.

That's a tdr911. I just got the manual laser, not the whole setup that's available. It was all i needed and works well. You can google for the web site, or just check the member list. He's also a member here. Besides looking good it was the best price I found. The activation switch is right at the tip of your trigger finger too.

I like my 40ve and use it for ccw no problem here and i have a friend who custom makes leather holsters and he made a nice one for me for a ccw.
