So after reading a lot of threads here on the CS9 single stack I bought one and added the Big Dog grips. Tried to make it work for me, but long story short it just doesn't fit my hand (if I don't trade it locally look for it in the classifieds). That said, I'm going back to old reliable and thinking about a 649 BodyGuard in 357 or a model 60 2 1/8" in 357. I don't know yet if I will carry it with 357, but I like having the option. I want the extra weight to assist with recoil on follow up shots, but still want the J-frame size for occasional pocket use. Considered some smaller K-frames, but after waiting for over 2 years on my Del Fatti j-frame IWB I would just as soon stick with that frame size. If you guys have any advice, comments, etc. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

They made 649's in .38 for a while, and I helped a friend snag one. Great gun. I, on the other hand, regretfully traded away a .357 649, because I don't like using .38's in a gun chambered for .357 and the J frame was too small for my hand. Couldn't control it when using .357's. Ok by conventional self defense criteria, eight inch circle at fifteen yards, but I like to be able to place a bullet more precisely than that, and I couldn't do it with a .357 649 without a bench rest. Too much bang for the 22 oz gun.

I've become a fan of the 4" K frame .38's, the 64 and 67.

+1 for the M60 3inch. .357s are not not bad at all and with a combat grip is easy to handle.

3" bbl. and combat grips are taking away from the near perfect design of the 649 in my opinion. They're not target guns. They're not supposed to be comfortable to shoot. They're supposed to be as concealable and easy to shoot from a pocket as possible. My 2" 49 fits perfectly in a Mika holster in my jeans pockets without being visible. Also fits great in my small side pocket on my duty leather jacket and motorcycle leather side pocket. I tried a 3" and you could see the backstrap in my jeans pocket. Same goes for grips. The factory grips are fine. Rubber grips of any type were too big for me or made the gun not want to slide out of my pocket as easy.
