SWS Brass Deflector is now available

Do you really need a problem out of a proven platform, that is what I am asking. My brass flies 6 or 7 feet away from me, stuff proberbly weighs less than a penny, and I could catch it in mid air and it would proberby not burn my hand. But if you are a left handed shooter, I see the benifit of it, knowing from what my son has exsperenced, it being a benifit. Not trying to put the product down, just trying to justify it.

I have fairly good results with the brass deflector. Everything I have tried, including Federal bulk pack, Remmy Gold bullets, most CCI ammo have an occasional "classic" stove pipe stoppage. (Brass sideways in the ejection port. Occasional meaning maybe one or 2 every 50 rounds. Now, with Remmy target rounds, a nightmare. seemed like every 3rd shot. Took deflector off, ran fine. With stingers, not as bad, but very noticeable.

My setup with the deflector seems to prefer ammo in the 1100 - 1280 fps range for the most reliable function. Rifle is not new, and well worn in at 15k thru it, shooting with lite lube on the action rails.

So far it been ok since I shoot mostly federal bulk pack. (till my supply runs out :) )

That is a good point about the fps. I just checked what I have and it is all in the 1200 fps range. I am going to have to find some more ammo higher and lower velocity ammo.

A 22lr case will burn you just as bad as anything else out there. A couple of weeks ago I was shooting my 22lr pistol and had a 22lr case bounce off a divider and get caught in between my shirt collar and neck, that burned me pretty badly. If I shoot the 15-22 without the deflector, I either have to shift to a less optimal grip, or just deal with it. After a shooting session my elbow and upper forearm will be covered with small burns without using the deflector. Others shoot at ranges that require them to police their brass after shooting, the deflector helps with cleanup, and keeping the brass from hitting adjacent shooters.

Is there anyone running sub sonics that would like to run some testing for me? I have a new batch of deflectors that I will be picking up from the anodizer on mon/tues.

Freeway, sorry you are still having problems with the deflector. If you would like a refund let me know. I listed some additional ideas below to try out if you want.

Don't worry about the refund! At worst, I will just experiment with a couple things to see if I can make the malfunctions go away. It could also just be my rifle.

Hope to dig out the washers in a day or two, and make another trip to the range. I will post here what happens.

If that has no luck, I will try your other ideas. Thanks! :D

I have some of the following, if you want me to test with them, let me know...

Aguila SSS 60g (not sure if this will work in a 15-22)

CCI Green Tag Competition

CCI Standard Velocity

I know some people have had good luck with the 15-22 cycling subs, so the SSS may or may not cycle. If you would try out some of the CCI standard velocity and see what happens.

Also, would you like me to send you a few extra shields to mess with?

I see then it is a useful add on for left handed users, my son shoots lefty. He has even put his thumb over the ejection port of a couple of guns I own. Therefore causing issues. I regress my doubts, it does seem to have a use. Was only trying to figure out why I would want to add this to my rifle. This is .22lr, not .308 or some high caliber that has real weight or even some heat behind it. You can put 100 rounds down the barrel and it gets just barely warm, try that with a real caliber gun and see how hot it gets. Brass out of a .223-5.56 or a .308 is smoking hot comming out of the cahmber. I see that stuff needing deflected out of the way.

Obviously you've never had a freshly ejected .22 case down your shirt. And after a hundred round fast fired, my barrel DOES get too hot to comfortable hold onto. Why do I suspect you don't have a lot of respect for .22 LR? :)

Neither do you shoot with someone on your right who doesn't cases thrown in their face or down THEIR shirts. Or shoot where you are required to police your brass. I prefer my brass in a pile at my feet or on the bench that thrown over several dozen square feet.

Both my son and I have danced the shell in my neck/arm dance. Its not fun. I shoot lefty and he shoots rigthy. So really looking to test out the delector today...

I will try the CCI Standard Velocity, and the Green Tag. I'll probably try the Aguila SSS 60g just because. I tried them in my Henry lever action, and at 20 yards, the bullets really tumbled, and created huge square holes!

I have a bunch of SV sitting here if you'd care to have me test some for you. I haven't had any issues with the original one yet though, maybe I'm just lucky.

If you see no need for it, then obviously you don't need to justify it. Others here have justification enough without the need to explain it to someone who clearly doesn't want or need the device.

I run 100% sub-sonic with an AAC can on mine. If I can help test anything, I would be happy to do so.

PM sent!

Good to hear the brass deflector is working! When you have time, if you would run some of the SV and let me know how it works out, I would appreciate it.

SWS,

The SV works just fine for me. I haven't had any issues with bounce-back yet, and I've shot probably close to 450 rds of it since I got the deflector. If I do have any bounce-backs, I'll let you know.

Finally got the gun out to the range and put a few hundred rounds through it to sight in and just have fun.

Deflector worked like a charm without causing any issues except a random casing falling into my shoe on my ankle lol

Glad to hear it is working for you... except that part about your ankle :o
