I am not a fan of Taurus, but people do like to blame others for their actions or mishaps.
I gun is not supposed to be dropped, and if it is, a breakage of something could cause an accidental fire on ANY weapon.
I have no idea what the claims about firing with the safeties on is about.
If there was a defect, it should be able to be fixed, and Taurus would admit there was a problem. Taurus is not admitting any problem, and they state there is NO fix. So what IS actually wrong with them?
I have one Taurus, and it is one of the models recalled. Purchased by my wife in 2011, it is a PT111 Millennium Pro in 9mm. I have always thought of it as a pretty good gun, given a Taurus. The spring isn't quite strong enough for constant +P rounds, but function and quality are just fine. All around problem free compact for a good price.
I just went and checked it now. Mine does not fire with the safety on. I cannot speak about dropping it, because that is something I don't do. However, with the safety on and squeezing the trigger, I can see pressure being put on the safety lever. It moves the safety lever ever so slightly. So maybe that is the problem. Some safeties are not strong enough and pressure on the trigger dis-engages them?
I will keep the Taurus though. I don't go around pulling the trigger when the safety is on, and I will not be dropping it anytime soon, so it should do fine. It is all in the owner for the most part. Unless a blatant defect.
I look at all these "plastic fantastics" the same, no matter the brand. They are all sub par, except for a few.
I rather pack a good old fashion revolver made in the prime days of long ago.
To the OP, you made the right decision with your choice, for the reason you that you picked a gun that was "right" for YOU!
