The Every Trip Range Gun

I don't really have one. But currently if I had to name one it would be my 4" 686. It's just a gun that feels good to shoot. I usually shoot 38 reloads for cost or reloads in 357 brass that are still just 38 reloads. But it's still makes magnums seem mild. It just feels natural in my hand. Of course I carried a revolver on duty daily for many years. But I do really like my Ruger MKIV target too.

I have a six inch Model 66-2 that goes a LOT, but in another couple of years it won't... because I'll be giving it to my youngest daughter.

Next to that, I suspect my Coonan Classic goes an awful lot.

Hey AJ, do I see powder burns on the target?? LOL, nice shooting. Nice model 18 Greyfox, Lorry

Larry,

No, no powder burns. But as I get older and the Doctor is watching my cataracts , I may need to get closer. Have switched from irons to scope for some of my shooting. Thanks for the kind words!

How is that Mid Range doing?

AJ

For me it's one of three. Either my Colt Gold Cup NM in 45 acp, my S&W M15 or my S&W M41.

My Colt Gold Cup goes with me to the range every Friday. That is my handgun day. The target is 25 shots. It can do better, but the old guy behind the trigger is losing his touch!

It's this 66-4 that's my consistent range companion.

It has the best SA/DA trigger of all of my small herd of J's and K's and is a pleasure to shoot.

It's now become too cumbersome for me to EDC so it's now relegated to range duty only.

I shoot rifles twice a week. This is a Winchester 52D with a Lyman 25X scope. The rifle is from 1964 and the scope even earlier. The attached target will show you why I shoot it a lot. That is five shots. The coin is a Barber Nickel.

That SK ammo is some good stuff. The BSA Martini 12 I think dates from late 1930's. (I need a better glass to make out the Birmingham proof date) The scope is a Litschert 20X, likely from the late 40's. The plebeian Roosevelt dime will have to do.

I have a K-22 and it is a hoot to shoot. However, I really like shooting my Walther OSP in .22 Short. It is the front pistol in the picture of the pistol box. Ungodly accurate, it puts me to shame if I am out of the 10 ring. The OSP is of course on the top. And as you can see I shamed myself.

On any range trip I always carry either my S&W 18-3, Ruger Standard Auto or MK. II. Concentrate on the 18 for the simple reason I've had one or more in my collection since 1983. Have had 17's as well as Brownings, Colts, etc. Just never really warmed up to the Colts or Brownings.

Today I will go to the range. I will carry my 18, Mk. II and ... my 4 inch 586. Later this week, if possible, I will take my 9mm Sig 226 and my Standard Auto to the range. In a few days a K-frame trigger and hammer will arrive in the mail. Once installed, I will be able to take my 4 inch 19-2 to the range. Looking forward to it. Sincerely. bruce.

Have shot a lot of BSA's. I really like the Martini actions. Enjoy yours!!

I really like the BSA's. Have owned and shot quite a few. I love the Martini actions.

I have a Barber Dime if that will help?

I have one case with a 6 inch model 17 (1953), an 8 3/8 model 17 (1978), a model 18 (1953), and a 4 inch model 48 (1978). Always goes to the range. Sometimes I forget other guns I intended to take, but I always have something to shoot.
