I just watched Captain Mark Kelly tell congress that he and his wife were gun owners who didn't want to give up their guns and then make recommendations that would do just that. I liked Grassley's speech. he laid into the president.

That Chief James Johnson from Baltimore Co. Md. is definitely not our friend.

What I gather so far,,,the proposal to ban large capacity firearms will have a hard time passing Feinsteins wishes

Increased background checks, for felons or mental ill persons will pass.

Increased background checks for private sales will probably pass.

That Gayle Trotter did good and held her own. Same for that professor David Kopel..Law professor from Colorado.

Capt Kelly...not so much.

Gun Hearings

Just finished watching (Live) the gun hearings, a lot of good point were brought up, now it's just a matter of waiting & seeing what bills are going to presented and how they will be voted on.

I read that Senator Patrick Leahy is a gunowner and that the people of his state think he will stand up for the rights of his constituents. Boy are they in for a big surprise.

You may be right but as it stands right now Vermont has fewer restrictions on gun ownership than most of the country.

Indeed. Though mainly he seems to be beholden to the wills of organizations like the MPAA... You may remember his cameo in the two newest Batman films, as well as his dealings around the time of SOPA and PIPA and the whole "piracy" thing (the internet kind) which he was sort of leading the charge on. I would have no faith in him to do "the right thing" here.

I agree with WuzzFuzz Senator Cruz made a very solid and well informed stance. He even brought visual effects. He had the Captain from Baltimore stammering when he presented facts on how Baltimore's murder rate was 10 times Austin's. Texans should be proud! Meanwhile Dick Durbin really showed how ignorant and uninformed he was. I wrote Senator Cruz a thank you on his website.
I've got to say I'm jealous that you Texans have a great Senator! Especially being from NY with our senior senator and his shadow.
God Bless Texas.

Agreed, they are indeed in for a big suprise because any gun grab or ban or restriction will not apply to government employees or that ilk of elitist.

On another note, way to go to the freshman Senator Cruz from my Republic of Texas. Kudos Sir.:D

Uh-oh, what'd Durbin do this time?

Usually when he gets on TV he whines about people shooting deer with these assault weapons or high capacity magazines in our handguns. And IIRC, maybe even full auto?

Keep in mind, we can't use rifles for deer season (well, except black powder) here in Illinois. Only shotguns. With 3 slugs or less.

Between the 40% made up number for transactions without background checks, the claims that this person or that would still be alive if there were background checks or no 30 round mags, and Feinstein claiming a slide fire allows you to shoot 300-400 rounds in 10 seconds - we all know this was nothing but a formality. Just more proof of the integrity of the US Congress.

Background check on my wife?

While discussing these hearings at supper with my wife, I told her if this universal background check passes, I will have to do a background check on her to transfer a gun to her. Will have to do one on my Grandchildren to pass guns on to them. This whole thing smells rotten here. What are they really trying to do here? I personally believe they are MORE interested in seeing WHO is selling guns and HOW MANY. Doesn't "private sale" mean just that...private?

This whole circus is a giant Socialist POWER GRAB. Period.

None of these stats mean s@#$ to me because it is so obvious that proposed legislation will NOT do anything to control violence.

This is an IDEAL opportunity for socialists to play their little freakin violins and herd their sheep into flocks with their stoopid made up inflated statistics, crybaby tactics and double talk.........UGH.....

DiFi looks like she has had enough Botox for awhile, Cheif numbnutz with all his fancy badges couldnt sit up straight if it wasnt for the teleprompter in front of him, Leahy looks and sounds like he sat on a tranquilizer dart, Lapierre , Kopel and that other woman REALLY need to kick it up a notch and stop sugar coating things! Grow a set and tell it like it is!

Did i mention UGH?!?!?!

I too was a little disappointed in one of the responses of Wayne LaPierre. When Durbin asked him if he thought the 2nd was written so citizens could fight their own goverment and police if necessary he really didn't answer the question. He should have said YES. Durbin then turned to the Chief from Baltimore and asked him "Mr. LaPierre thinks it's ok to fight you and your force." I'm disturbed that a senator and a highly ranked police officer doesn't understand the Constitution of the United States!

I watched all but about 1/2 hour of the "meeting".

Wayne and Koppel did finally kick it up a bit. I was happy and i hope they keep the defense strong.

Is it just me, or is it easy to tell who is a liberal elitest bleeding heart just by looking at 'em???? LOL! Cspan doesnt have to waste time putting their names up there.

Ted Cruz was the star. His chart showing only 1.6% of crimes are traced to guns sold at shows was an eye-opener. The Repubs generally did a good job of standing up for the Second. Leahy appeared drunk, Schumer and the rest of the Dems were so scripted as to be laughable. Durbin was a downright embarrassment. Kudos to the woman panelist who spoke eloquently about the need for women to have the "equalizer" in a gun when confronting a male threat. BTW, a good argument for why women should not be in combat roles.
