The Jeep Wave....

When I had my Cherokee, I LOVE me a good XJ, I always smiled at the Jeep Wave.
I noticed... the "off road jeepers", CJs, YJs,TJs, XJs, FSJs... they would almost always wave.
The street jeepers... not so much.

I owned a 1991 & a 1993 YJ at the same time. The '91 was a auto trans so the kids drove it more than I did. My daughter learned to drive in the '91 YJ. I had to wave so much my left arm nearly fell off. You can meet some nice people in a Jeep, though.

Here is a safety tip for you if your Jeep is a manual trans. Get yourself a large loop padlock and wrap it around the brake and clutch pedals when you leave it parked. Nobody is going to be able to drive it off, even if they get it started.

I've had my YJ since '93... Lifted it back when, articulated it, and drove it on dunes forever.... It floats cuz it's a 4 banger.

Dang, I luvs my Jeeps....

Way back in the summer of '77 (thats 1977 for you wise ones) momma wanted a dependable vehicle to get thru the snow and go to work. We ordered up a '78 for when they started making them. Got it in September of that year. We've had at least one jeep ever since, and usually 2 of them. It makes me kind of familiar with the wave. Us older and more seasoned jeepers don't move the arm, we wave with our hands from the 12 O'clock postion on the steering wheel. We smile, too.

Especially at the young girlies. Time was, jeeps were a man's vehicle. Now as many or more of the drivers are female. Often presentable ones.

Jeep has a road service plan, too. If a woman, like your wife or daughter breaks down on the highway, every other jeep for miles around congregates to help. Once about 25 years ago I towed one on a tug-em strap 30 miles. Wouldn't take any pay, its a service.

Another time a woman with 2 small ones broke down on the interstate. It was before cell phones were common. I pulled over to help and whatever the problem was, it required a shop. A cop pulled up in short order to sort it out. He called for a wrecker. I told him I'd take her home or where ever she and the kids needed to go. He was reluctant, but I offered up my drivers license so he could record who I was if anything untold happened to her. They all seemed OK with it.

Later I got a call from her husband, thanking me. Jeepers help jeepers.

We're the most loyal brand customers in the industry, and we universally hate the manufacturer and the crooked dealers. Figure that one out.

Bought an '05 Wrangler in December. Never realized how many of them are out there until I had one. I get plenty of waves from other CJ/TJ/YJ owners and do lots of waving myself. Occasionally when I'm driving my Land Rover I'll get a wave or a nod from another Landy driver but it's not like the Jeep peeps. Don't know why, guess it's like riding a motorcycle.

This old couple is on their third Jeep. The wife had always wanted one so I bought her a '95 YJ and her brand new Ford Explorer sat in the garage. And the Explorer sat in the garage...And the Explorer never got driven and sat in the garage some more so I gave it a good sellin' so it was not sitting in the garage. After a couple years we decided the Jeep was not just a passing fad thing for her so I bought her a new TJ which she drove a couple years. One day she comes home and says, "I found an LJ Rubicon Unlimited that I have to have." So now she drives the Rubi. Jeeps do make good towed vehicles for behind the motorhome. And yes, she waves most of the time. But around here in east TN farm country if you are driving a pickup or a Jeep everybody waves.

It Definitely is a "Jeep Thing"

I bought my youngest Son a 1987 Wrangler when he started college over 10 years ago.......after about 3 years he wanted to trade it for a car...suffice to say...I "Gave" him my van to trade and took the Jeep....Best Deal I ever made..!!...when we bought it...had 29,000 miles on it....Never been offroad....now its got over 144,000 and STILL has not been offroad...(I did all my Jeep offroading in a M1A1 at Fort Hood Texas in the Army).....anyway...found a guy who had a hard top for sale.....$400.00....almost mint condition....said he hated hard tops and loved canvas tops....I said.."whatever....heres $400"....now put Big Brush Guard on front...off road lights..(just to impress the girls)..mounting CB in it..already put sound bar...and overhead console...new carpet.......YES....I Love my Jeep...!!!..

There's a feller in town that has a completely rusted out '47 Willys that I'd like to have, but I can buy a good car for what he wants for it.

I'd like to get a nice 40's-50's vintage one...
Of course, I wouldn't know how to work on a four wheel drive that isn't positive ground. ;)

It's more fun to work on things with Lucas electrics in them.
