For years, I have sought info on the extremely rare NYPD Dan Wesson Model 11. I first heard of this "great white whale" in the late 1980's from a Massad Ayoob article on the six-guns of the NYPD. Ayoob mentions this particular NYPD .38 Service Revolver and that in the early 70's it could be selected as a on-duty service revolver by a newly hired officer. Ayoob went on to briefly describe this Dan Wesson as the Model 11, blue steel, chambered in .38 Special, and a 4-inch "fixed barrel" expressly for NYPD approval. I have researched this NYPD Dan Wesson in many directions. The Dan Wesson Forum wasn't able to assist but did provide me some data on the Model 11 itself. I own a Model 11 and most were chambered in .357 but some did get out in .38 Special for LW purposes. This same Dan Wesson was produced about 1970-71 and discontinued for the Model 14 that replaced it. Through the internet several years ago, I met a retired NYPD Officer from the 1970 time period that told me he had a partner that carried the Model 11 as his duty arm. Accurate and rugged were his two descriptive words on this same Dan Wesson and that was about it. He also said that he had never seen any other brother officer packing a Model 11 except his partner.

Do any of you members know anything concerning the NYPD Dan Wesson Model 11? A story is waiting to be told/shared on this subject matter, especially to my fine friends at the Dan Wesson Forum that are curious about it. That part of Dan Wesson history is missing and worthy of recording. Thanks in advance.
