The pocket holster for my Shield that I've been waiting for

Received today from R. Grizzle Leather. Had to wait about 7 months, but I knew this when ordering.

In the summer months, I frequently pocket-carry both my Shield 40 and my 642 J-frame. This summer for the Shield, I've been using a Remora (which I reported on back in the Spring). It is a good holster, but there is something about leather that I can't stay away from.

Compared to the Remora, the Grizzle holster feels much better in the pocket. It is beautifully crafted and already feels broken in. It is probably a fraction of an inch smaller than the Remora, and I like the way it is curved to fit your leg. I'm going to go out on a limb and claim this is the best pocket holster you'll be able to find for your Shield.

So -- here are pics of my new holster --

Nice looking! Curious, front pocket or back? Jeans, slacks, cargo pants? Size?
I can get it into my pocket but they are to small to be able to get it out quickly.

That holster screams quality even in pictures. Very nice

Light weight shorts front pocket -- not the cargo pocket (which I hate putting things in as the cargo pocket is down so low). Depending on brands, I wear XL or 2X.

To give you an idea - here are the shorts. They have big front pockets.

Men's Armachillo Ripstop Cargo Shorts 11" Inseam - Duluth Trading

When it gets cooler and I get back into jeans, I normally wear a loose shirt or jacket to hide my IWB holster.

To be frank -- I've never been able to draw quickly while pocket carrying. But that pretty much holds true for IWB or even OWB. I'm just not going to win a quick draw contest. I am counting that my "awareness of surroundings" is going to serve me well if I ever find myself in a bad situation.

If the bad guy doesn't know your concealing you may not need to be the quick draw, just the person looking for the opportune time to make their day.

I recall a senior citizen in Florida butt shooting two thugs attempting to rob at gunpoint a room full of folks in an internet cafe.

He obviously could not out draw the 2 young thugs but he capitalized on the element of surprise concealment provides.

He kept his cool and waited until they turned their backsides on him to draw and provide them with a colonoscopy.

Yep - that's what I attempted to say. I don't look the part of someone who is packing heat.

Also, whenever I feel even slightly uncomfortable -- like in a store where I see some unsavory dudes, my hand immediately goes to my pocket to grip the gun .... just in case. That alone takes many seconds off any draw I may need to make. As far as anyone can tell, I am doing nothing more than fumbling for my keys.

Being anywhere in public is actually potentially dangerous these days.

I know what you mean, I'm the same way. Congrats on that fine piece of leather. Great setup.

My only issue though is this ..........
I haven't quite worked up the guts to tell my wife that I have ANOTHER new holster.
