The Real Story of the Badges

Have you noticed that near the user name of some members there is a badge with the word Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum Contributor? I am a member of a fishing forum with such badges. The badges on that forum appear after the user posts or contributes to a certain number of posts. But, those badges are different here. They represent a level of financial contribution made to the forum by that member. I contributed the bare minimum, just $30.00, based on what I could afford. I got a Bronze badge. Others contributing more get different badges, and different perks. I contribute out of appreciation to the forum owners for providing this community to me. Some just can't afford to contribute. And, I know they are welcome. Let's support the forum by contributing. It gets rid of the ads, supports the maintenance of this world class forum, and says thank you to its owners. Again, if you can't, no problem. Just a thought on the subject. What do you think?
