The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

I know I want one (28) badly. Just got to get over the outlay for my recent 686-2 purchase. I only own 2 blued Smiths and that needs to change.

Guess I'll add this one to this humongous thread even though you've seen it in another thread or two. It is my only Highway Patrolman, a 28-2, customized and converted to .45ACP by Marc Krebs.

Looks like it's either had a satin nickel plate done or a satin hard chrome.

Nice looking either way.

Hi, I don't know much about my HP. It was my Grandfathers before it was handed down to me. I know the serial is S212294, and according to this forum was made 1960-1961. I also see MOD-28 stamped on it. Is there any more information on this gun? Any extra info would be appreciated, thanks!

Given SpiderK's Model 28 (S212294) & Zombiekiller's 28-2 (S2222XX) it would appear that the elusive 28-1, if it exists, will fall between that range of 10,000 numbers.

I wanted to be part of this thread every time it resurfaced. I finally have a 28-2 to show. I haven't had it long enough to shoot it yet, just looked at it a lot.
I convinced myself that I needed a S&W, besides my 19-3 Combat Magnum, to shoot the heavy stuff (especially 125 grain JSP loaded as magnums).
S/N N2527XX, was probably shipped around 1976-1977.

Number 10!

At the moment I have nine of the fabulous S&W Model 28! Here is a picture of the first eight! The second picture is of the ninth, another 28-2, 6", N297346, looks unfired, just received this week! I'll have a picture of the tenth, soon, due next week!

Well, here's # 10, Fellows!
They are a mighty fine bunch! Most are non-shooters, but the way a 28 is built, why do you need to shoot more than one? Happy shooting, Everyone, wife and I are going to see our Grandson for the holiday! 28-2 6" Serial# N237363. See the rest of the family in post # 1246!

I can tell already that I am going to end up with a 6 inch 28 to go with my 4 inch. ;)

That is after I was going to skip the 28 because they arent in nickel and because I have a 27 that I really like.

Posted elsewhere but thought I would add it here. 1975 ship I believe. Pretty decent shape for coming up on 40.

Sorry, I'm no expert. It's just they look like the stocks I've seen on the reissued "Classics" more than the target stocks I've seen on older Smiths.
