The Wadcutter for Self-Defense: Over-hyped or not?

I was an inner city cop in the 1980's( Ft Worth, TX). I saw maybe a dozen people that had been shot with 38 wadcutters shot from snubby revolvers. Unless you can get velocity up to 950-1000 fps with a hard cast bullet they suck. 38 snubbies in general suck for defensive uses. Every cop I know that lived thru an off duty gunfight during that time frame that had been armed with a 38 snubby immediately upgraded to a 357 magnum or a 1911.

I have lived in North Dakota since the mid 1990's, winter clothing and fur is no protection from bullets.

from memory it was something on the order of 3.8gr. of Red Dot under a 148gr. HBWC.

I would take that for sure over what we were issued in the Army. 125 grain fmj round nose!
