Yogi Berra quotes:

-A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore.

-All pitchers are liars or crybabies.

-Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours.

-Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical.

-Congratulations. I knew the record would stand until it was broken.

-Even Napoleon had his Watergate.

-Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

-He hits from both sides of the plate. He's amphibious.

-I just want to thank everyone who made this day necessary.

-I never said most of the things I said.

-I wish I had an answer to that because I'm tired of answering that question.

-I'm not going to buy my kids an encyclopedia. Let them walk to school like I did.

-If the world was perfect, it wouldn't be.

-If you ask me anything I don't know, I'm not going to answer.

-If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.

-It gets late early out there.

-It's like deja-vu, all over again.

-Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.

-The future ain't what it used to be.

-The only color I don't have is navy brown.

-There are some people who, if they don't already know, you can't tell 'em.

-We made too many wrong mistakes.

-You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six.

-You can observe a lot by just watching.

-You wouldn't have won if we'd beaten you.

I recently saw an interview of Yogi and Joe Garagiola by Tim McCarver, where Joe told this story that I loved: "Me and Yogi decided to meet for breakfast one morning. We agreed on 8:00. Well, Yogi was always earlier than me for any meeting, so I decided I'd show up at 7:00 and beat him there. I walked in at 7:00, and low and behold there was Yogi, already sitting there waiting for me! He said "you're late!". I asked what the heck he was talking about, I was an hour early! He said "Yeh, but that's the earliest you've ever been late."

I am a Red Sox fan, and I still love Yogi! How could you not? When asked what he would want written on his gravestone, he said, "IT'S OVER"

For those of you not familiar with his famous lines, I think the most famous was "It aint over till it's over!"

With his depth of understanding W/G,
I'm sorta' surprised he didn't specify "NOW, it's over"!

I used to live in the same town as Larry (the name on his rookie card) and I worked out and played at his gym and raquetball club. He and his wife, Carmen are wonderful, warm people who are very generous with their time and money for many charities. I was a fan of his and the Yankees as a small boy and I am proud to have done business and spoken with him many times. He told me once that he opened the club to have someplace to display his trophies and awards because his wife just wanted them out of the house. The trophy case was a treasure trove of memorabilia and I looked at it every time I was there.

Yogi trivia: which World Series ring does he wear and why?

Paraphrased:

"you get money back and that is almost like getting cash."

From the AFLAC commercial. The duck just turned his head and looked stumped. LOL

Even at his advanced age he is still clever. And was there anyone played in more WS than Yogi? One thing's for sure, for a funny looking little guy he was one hell of a clutch hitter. He's MY all-time catcher. AND, a true Yankee!

I grew up in central NJ. When I was nine or ten we used to take a Church sponsored bus to Yankee stadium and watch quite a few of the home games. Back then (late 50's) when the game was over, they opened the gates and you could walk out on the field, talk to any players who hung around, etc.

I remember Yogi above almost any of the rest of them..other than Mickey Mantle. BOTH were absolute Gentlemen who appeared to enjoy meeting with their fans.

Had a few baseballs, baseball cards, etc signed by many of the old Yankees...ALL of that lost over the years.

Anyone else rmember when Yogi was the spokesperson for Yoo-Hoo the chocolate Action drink?? LOL. Maybe thats an east coast thing.

I woman went up to Yogi while in FL for spring training. He had his shorts and sandals on and she says, "You look very cool". Yogi answers, "You don't look so hot yourself Lady".

Can't LOOK at a Yoo-Hoo and NOT think of Yogi:D

"...and they give ya cash, which is just as good as money!"

I don't know which is funnier, the duck's reaction, or the guy outside as the duck walks out.

Best of the Aflac commercials, with the possible exception of the Aflac roller coaster commercial. :D

I'm still waiting to see which WS ring he wears - AND why......

AND he is a Navy veteran who participated in the D-Day invasion.

Another 2 year old thread... but a timeless two year old thread & one worth revisiting. :D

I'm a Detroit Tiger fan but you can't help but like Yogi and you can't help but love the Yogisms. What a guy. I even named my dog after him - sounded better that Bauer. A real catcher's catcher.
