Boys, we had a gunstore broken into night before last down Houston, Tx. way. Ya'll may have seen it on National News.

11, i believe it was, "dudes" used chain, stolen pickup and yanked doors off of building, ran in , stole around 50 rifles, handguns, etc. I believe this is called burglary.

If you will google gun store robbery and read headline of CBS news. I quote "Three arrested in violent Texas gun store robbery".

There was no violence and it was not a robbery. It was a burglary. No one was there other than perps, no violence, no robbery. Violence has such a wonderful sound of sensationalism doesn't it? No shots fired, no violence, no injuries, etc.

Violent and robbery sound so much more intense.

So much for factual reporting.

Reckon the gun grabbers will warm up to that headline better. Regardless of how wrong it may be.

There were several darker skinned males who may have been Black, Latino or Islander. These males took property that did not belong to them. Is that better?

I mean I heard robbery I knew stuff was taken. I also knew no one was killed and no rape was committed. However goods were taken without payment or authorization

My brother worked in a paid parking lot(part time) that was guarded by a Leo. My brother talked with him about these bad guys with guns. The Leo said were lucky these guys don't do range time and practice it could be a lot worse.

No one got hurt but the future of these smash and grab weapons doesn't look good. They need cables thru the trigger guards. Jersey barriers in front of the doors. Armed night guard. Give me a street sweeper I'd do the job as night guard.

Seriously, there were some criminals breaking into gun stores in California using the same method. One of the stores was The Gun Exchange here in San Jose. I believe over 100 guns were stolen. I wonder if the criminals that were operating here in California have changed locations?

I would bet different criminals, same gang. At the very least, the word has traveled through the criminal grapevine that this tactic works.

Smash and grab is an old tactic.

Over 20 years ago when my job took me to the St. Louis Metro area I found a nice LGS not far from the house. I went in one Saturday morning and saw new steel posts buried in concrete across the front of the store, new windows with steel bars bolted to the brick front/ and covering the door.

A couple of nights previous someone stole a pick up backed it through the front of the store and pulled it out far enough to take lots of long guns and revolvers. The glass cases were locked but they smashed the glass. I don't remember how many but the whole thing was done in minutes. I don't remember if they were caught. Most of the long guns were AK types or shotguns mostly pump. Did not sound like a band of crazed rabbit or deer hunters to me.

Did the news event mention the other magic word, arsenal?

Could be. Maybe they got tired of bullet buttoned ARs and didn't particularly care for any of the on roster handguns...

Back in the 90's I took a reporter on a tour of flooded areas below a dam in our area. Then listened as he called in his report.
Wow. I did not see things even close to the way he did. If I had not been with him I would have sworn he was talking of some other place.

Why nitpick over semantics? The violence was in the manner of the break-in. It certainly wasn't carried out in a calm or sedate manner. I sure don't see any of the robbers/burglars strolling in and out of the gun store like they're shopping at Cabela's or something.

Robbery is a synonym for burglary, and vice versa. Both mean something belonging to someone else was stolen. A robbery does not require a human victim, and neither does a burglary.
