Third Generation Smiths in TV & Film

Sandra Bullock carried a 6906 in Murder By The Numbers

Grace Park carried a 3913(?) during the second season of Hawaii Five Oh

Will Smith had a 3913 (NS or LS) in Men in Black, when he was NYPD before he was recruited into the MIBs.

Sonny Crocket, Vic "The Mac man" Mackey and Denzel!! How could you go wrong with a 4506???:)

This brings backs memories. As a kid I loved watching the reruns of Miami Vice. That big 4506 stood out to me as much as the Testarossa and Ray-Bans. As a teenager I remember Denzel and later Vic Mackey waving that thing around. That model always stood out to me, the big slide and those big sights. A lot of movies had the 5906s and 4006s, but something about that 4506 sure was special.

Dekes lost his Beretta during a chase. At the end of that episode, Heddy gave him a S&W box and says "try not to lose this one".

I get the impression whoever wrote that is definitely into guns. The sub-plot was subtle enough that casual viewers don't catch it, but it goes like this:
  • Kensi- everyone likes Sigs. We all have Sigs. Why do you have that old Beretta? It's bulky. Get a Sig.
  • Dekes- I've carried my Beretta a long time. I've trained on a slide safety, my fingers know where to go. I'm not losing all that just to be cool. Sigs have a totally different layout.
  • <loses the Beretta, looks sad>
  • Heddy- here, take this Smith and keep your muscle memory. Same controls as Beretta, more compact like that snot-nosed kid's P228.

Not a whole lot of difference in size (if any) between the Beretta and Smith 5904. And the Smith has to be heavier since it's all steel.

I beg to differ...

I don't have a 5904, but they're alloy framed with a blued slide. I do own a 915, which is also the same materials. It's much smaller than my Beretta 92FS; a good inch shorter, maybe more.
My CZ 75 and Hi Power are also both longer and heavier.

Yeah, I always thought it was interesting that Agent Walker in Chuck always grabs her stainless Smith.

I thought I saw Deeks with a 1911 at one point too, but I forget.

Spotted this Smith in a trailer for something called Secret in Their Eyes:

Watching The Shield is what drove me to get a 4506. I'm glad I did since it one of my favorite pistols.

New NBC series "Shades of Blue." On the second episode from 1/14/2016, the character played by Jennifer Lopez reaches for her off duty weapon and it's a 3rd gen. Quick flash, but looked like either a 6906 or 3913. I think NYPD can still carry a 3953TSW for a backup, but I doubt there was that much attention to detail.

Bump-
Captain America Civil War; Zemo (the bad guy) has what looks to be a 5906. Scene at the end, where he's talking to Black Panther, you very briefly see the unmistakable lines of a S&W of either 9mm or .40 (I recognized by the machining on the frame). Then the camera zooms to the actors, and you can see the slide safety.

I can't find an image of the frame online, but here are a couple of the slide

I notice the safety moves position in these shots, I guess they had several takes.

Crockett.

Miami Vice Season V

Smith & Wesson 4506-NO

Smith & Wesson M645 Transitional Model-Yes.

IMFDB.com wrong-Yes.

I know the collector personally who bought it from Charlie Gaunci Sr. along with notorized Letter of Authenticity and a well worn Galco ******* rig. I also have pics.

Shows shot in Canada usually feature Berettas or Smiths simply because of their handgun laws, even when licensed. Even if the show supposedly takes place in the US, most cops seem to carry 92s or 5906s in the shows shot there.

I just learned something today. That's pretty cool.

Any pics showing the difference? Most of the filming showed the muzzle end!
