There is a video out of the actual shooting. Rather odd, the shooter keeps pulling the slide back manually. Story says three live 9mm rounds and three fired cases were found at the scene. Gun appears to have a suppressor. Video is on the NY Daily News website. Opinions?

Apparently NYC has numerous "shot spotter" detectors in that area. One news commentator said that none detected any shots being fired. Seems NYPD has discounted a theory that the shooter was a paid hit man, most probably someone having a personal grievance.

No critique of the murderers equipment, skills or methods required. He was unfortunately...successful. A family has been shattered, a wife lost her husband, kids lost their father. All I have to say.

You don't have to be a "pro" to do a job like this nor do you have to be a firearms "expert".

Suffice to say he was successful and that is enough. He had the weapon, the suppressor, and knew enough about his target to enable such success...especially in midtown Manhattan and to successfully (at least for now) make his escape.

I have worked around both the medical and insurance industries most of my life (I'm not elaborating further) and to arbitrarily rule out a "hit" would be a mistake.

My take is if you run with dangerous people regardless of who they are you'd best be ready to pay the cost for doing so eventually.

I just watched the video of the shooting. If the gun wasn't cycling because of the suppressor then why were there three fired cases on the ground along with three still loaded cartridges? I would think the gun was cycling just fine and ejecting the case. He fires the first round, then he pulls back the slide and a loaded round is ejected, second round fired and case ejects. Then he pulls the slide back twice in succession before a third round is fired! WHY?? Why didn't he think the gun was operating properly, is it the first time he has ever shot the gun?

A professional, not likely. A professional wouldn't have wasted the time or money to have a suppressor as he knows close witnesses will know what is happening anyway, and he would want a concealable gun that wouldn't attract attention as he escaped. A gun with a suppressor is hardly concealable! That pistol with suppressor is at least fifteen inches long!

My money is on suspect is just an insured party who thinks he was screwed on a claim by United Health Care and thinks he is "getting even" by killing the CEO.

I just saw another article on the Internet that said that a cell phone was recovered along with other evidence. Assuming it is the suspects phone they have him by the nuts!

The Lounge A Catch-All Area for NON-GUN topics

So we discuss.

Apparently the shooter was at Starbucks earlier. I can see that place being swarmed with forensic experts for any clue.

There was talk about a recovered cell phone but no confirmation as to just whose phone it was. At least so far. I don't quite understand the escape bicycle story. Appears that NYC has electric bicycles that can be used by swiping a credit card. Have not heard any more about that. I'd suppose the shooter could have used a stolen credit card. I believe San Antonio had tried something like that in the downtown tourist area some years ago but it didn't work out so well.

Seems to me someone must have done a lot of Internet sleuthing to learn the executive's habits - wouldn't be surprised if the resulting digital trail leads to catching the guy.

Guess #1: Current wife's squeeze wants to help her get her 'half", now. Wifey: "Ooooh! that sounds exciting."
Guess #2: CEO's current squeeze has a nasty "ex" boyfriend- and "he mad."
I'll stop there as #3,#4 etc get "conspiratorial" and not "Lounge rated." Joe

Late wife#1 was in the medical game. Hearing her stories about the health insurance "industry", I'm surprised it hasn't happened before.

^^^This.

There are many industries that are equally as bad as well. It may well be the case of someone disgruntled...and maybe I'll be surprised IF they catch the guy. I don't think they will (at least alive)

I am certain that the victim's domestic situation will be thoroughly investigated.
