Throttlebody cleaner a good degreaser?

throttle body cleaner will leave a little residue, I would think that brake cleaner would do better, dries quicker and really does remove all oil and grease. but this is all just IMO

Brake cleaner IF its NON-CHLORINATED, only!

It leaves no residue but be sure to re lube promptly as it strips the metal clean.

Good information guys! I'm glad you mentioned to "keep away from plastic." It probably would have ruined my day if I melted down my 15-22.

According to Arnold Jewel that makes the finest riggers in the country, he says to utilze cigarette lighter fluid! It leaves no residue and thats what I use anytime I have a trigger to clean never had a problem doing it this way. Don't use high pressure air to dry it either, just let it dry naturally. I keep a large can of Ronson Lighter fluid in my cleaning kit.

I also use the Slip2000 carbon killer, man does that stuff work and like you said it smells great!

I have to try that. I'm trying to move to less toxic, less odorous cleaners. I'll still keep a bottle of Hoppes No.9. I've associated the scent of Hoppes to good times relaxing & cleaning my guns.

I am also going to try the Slip2000, we live in a small house, we converted a three car garage into a house, but have no mortgage. My wife complains about the smell when I clean guns (and I always have more than one to clean) and something that would not make her unhappy would be super great. Thank Guys for the heads up!!!

Gotta laugh at this I started hunting with my dad at 10 when we came home we always cleaned the guns with Hoppe's #9, I thought the stuff smelled great in fact if they made after shave I would probably buy it!lol Now they have hoppe's #9 air freshners for your automobile! who's got one in their truck you guessed it, now I roll down the road with that smell in the truck thinking about all those younger years I hunted!
Have a Great Day.
