"Time is a violent torrent; No sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place."

- Marcus Aurelius - Roman Emperor / Philosopher

When I think back to when I was young and my parents would say things like "you're lucky you have a calculator, we had to use a slide rule" or "We didn't own a television we listened to the radio"....... I had a hard time understanding what they were talking about.

Today, I say things like.......

"when I was young they didn't have ATM's. We went to the bank to get money."

"I never thought that someone would ever pay $3.00 for a bottle of water."

"When I was in grade school we had 4 TV channels. And the last one turned off at 1am to the playing of the national anthem."

If you find yourself saying things like this what would they be?

Today's walk-in closets are bigger than my bedroom growing up. I think it was 6', at most 7' wide, about 10'-11' long. My closet had a 24" door, was 3' wide inside. It held my Sunday suit and its dress shirt, 2 school shirts, a couple play shirts, one pr school pants and one pr play pants, 1 pr Sunday shoes, one pr penny loafers for school, one pr Keds for play and gym, maybe two or three ties, and the most important thing:
my 9' four-piece bamboo fly rod my grandfather gave me.

I insisted my daughter learn to use a stick shift a dozen years ago when she started driving. We took my truck, she did fine and she never drove a stick again. She lives in NYC and doesn't even own a car now [emoji1787]

She decided after driving an ol' stinky contractor's truck she had just as soon walk!

A story I liked telling the grandkids,,,, when I was in basic training at Ft. Jackson, they had a row of about 10 or 12 phone booths and when I wanted to call their grandma, I had to wait in line,,, sometimes for an hour or more to make the call. I had to explain what a phone booth was.

How about taking your 22 rifles to school and leaving them in the coatroom all day, so you and your friends could shoot rats at the dump after school. And no one ever worried about or considered threatening to shoot anyone else at school with half a dozen rifles and ammo in the coatroom.

When I was a young Engineer at General Motors and had a problem with a supplier, I would have my secretary type up and mail a letter to the supplier outlining the issue. I would normally expect a response in four to six weeks outlining what they were going to do or asking for additional information. Now days, if you don't have a response in 15 minutes, you have everyone and their brother calling wondering what the hold-up is.

My first truck was a Chevy with a 3 on the tree. Most people today would be lost if they were faced with that today !

I actually prefer a standard even today. But my main standard vehicle is a Shelby GT 500 Super Snake. How could one gripe about that being a standard!
