I have been waring wranglers for over 60 years, someone mentioned the back pockets they are higher up and you don't sit on your wallet therefore you don't get a sore butt from driving or siting for long periods, I can remember when I was a kid, when you got a new pair, they would stand up on their own, we used to take them and fill a wash tub with muddy water and scrub the heck out of them for a few days then wash them to soften them up.

I'm moving to Wranglers. I was happy with Levi's 517 boot cut jeans for years; in spite of their anti-gun stance which I only became aware of in recent times. My decision was based upon my perception that they have reduced the length of the fly. I'm sure that I haven't recently needed to store more "junk" but it seems that I must dig more to find whatever junk I've stored there. Is it me or did the Levi fly lose some teeth with old age?

I was considering the 517's and like how they felt a lot! But Again, like I said I like to have 3-5 pairs of different colors, of the same jeans. I made the jump though! Cowboy cut slim, and got one inch up, then shrunk them in hot. They're perfect! And while I can tell they are a bit warmer, I like the feel and the fit. No more low rise, or short zipper, and my thighs are happy too.

There are some of us. Eat your heart out. Not everyone swills beer and eats fried foods. My silhouette hasn't changed much in decades, thank goodness.

I've never worn jeans much. I may try some soon. I don't like Levis because of their anti-gun stance. May try Wranglers.

Normally, I wear Docker's slacks. But I'll read the jeans advice here.

I most often get "regular fit" Wranglers or Lee. One thing I do miss about Levis is the button fly. No matter how much beer you drink no one ever has a "trouser accident" with buttons.

When Wrangler changed over to the "U shaped chrotchtal area" design they shortened the height between the button and crotch, so in effect they're like hip hiphuggers. That really pisses me off. I've worn Wranglers forever, now I gotta change brands. Too much change can kill an old guy.

Personally I like Wranglers for sitting on a horse...the thick double seam is on the outside of the knee of Wranglers whereas Levis has it on the inside of the knee...I can feel a difference.

Back in the days of yesteryear when I still lived in Texas and was active in rodeo at the first I wore the I think they were called the 401 Levis. They would shrink so bad I would put them on new out of the box and weather permitting go and plop my butt down in the horse watering troth or a bathtub, get them soaking wet and ride them dry for a good fit. However for reasons I'm not allowed to express on this site (RE Boy Souts of America funding) I threw everything I had with the name Levi Strauss on it and went to Wranglers. Never regretted the change. As for shrinkage on the cowboy cut Wranglers I had there was really minimal shrinkage if any. At 75 I still grab me up some comfort cut Wranglers at Tractor supply today. A really great fit for some of you old guys like me that have splayed out a tad here and there.

If I remember correctly the 501 button front jean was the PRCA approved jean until some time in the 60's...You still see some of the old timers in west Texas wear them if they can find old ones..Mostly steer trippers. since the 60's the Wrangler company has been the approved jean for the PRCA which means they paid plenty to the PRCA. Realistically they fit better than any of the recently contracted Levi's made in the 3rd world..Levi has also been using lighter denim the last 10 years. Not the tough stuff from the old days..The last time I saw Levi's worn by cowboys was in Uvalde Tx.over 30 years ago and that was at a steer tripping. The cowboy cut Wranglers are the 11mwz the 13mwz and for real no butt guys the 926 den. The Wranglers are made with a higher waist and as some one mentioned a pair of rear pockets higher than most other jeans..Theory being you could use the back pockets in the saddle. Or so they say. Funny thing for rodeo use there is no short lengths . Association guys wear them so darn long. Style has been the norm for years...In the old days Levi provided the All Around buckle at the finals. That of course ended when Wrangler became the association jeans. Stop and think about it the style is starched and ironed jeans at sanctioned rodeos. Style not function. I'm sure real stock cowboys don't take time to iron their Wranglers . Actually Levi is not the Levi from even the 80's. They seem to be cut in pieces and not from the same bolt subsequently one leg will twist when washed different from the other leg. You look at some Levi's and one seem will be where it is supposed to be and the other seem will be toward the front of the pants. To bad about their anti gun position, but they aren't the Levi of yesteryear. I remember back in the 70's when you could get 200 bucks for any pair of cowboy cut jeans in Europe. Guys that went to Germany to rodeo at the All American Rodeo company always came back darn near naked, because they sold their stuff over there. Jeans, shirts and especially boots. Nothing like 500% profit...They liked us back then...Sad isn't it..

I wear Wranglers every day - even plan to be buried wearing them. I wear the regular boot cut that I get at Tractor Supply. I have never noticed any shrinkage, that's odd. My ranch work jeans, excluding Winter months, have a medium starch, with extra heavy starch from the knee down. The starch doesn't interfere in any activities, but has deflected several rattlesnake strikes in the canyons. I've heard good things about Carhart Jeans, but have yet to try them.

All I wear is Wranglers, generally the regular fit with western boots and the loose fit with hiking boots. I get them at wallyworld most of the time but when I feel like splurging I will get the 13MWZ cowboy cut at Tractor Supply. I have reached a point in life where almost all my wardrobe can be purchased at Tractor Supply. I dropped Levi years ago when they developed politics although I was never a huge fan and preferred Lee jeans when I was a kid. I did go over to the dark side a couple of years ago and buy a Levis denim jacket because it had a retro 1930s, forties single pocket style. Saw Tim Holt wearing one in a couple of old westerns and had to have one.

When I wore Levi's I wore the 550's. They're "fuller cut" - translation, when you were a kid and got jeans at Sears you wore "husky".

I have carpenter-style jeans from Wrangler, Lee and Riggs. The Wrangler and Lee I got at the Wrangler outlet store so I think they must have the same parent company. The Riggs are VERY heavy duty (double fabric from thigh to shin) but the hammer loop is on the right and the side pockets on the left, which is the opposite of the Lee and Wrangler brands.
